Earlier today, FedEx dropped off a surprise package from LEGO which contains the new LEGO 2015 Seasonal Holiday Exclusive Gingerbread House (40139). The set contains 277 pieces and is obtained starting on Black Friday November 27-November 30 at LEGO Brand Stores and on Shop@Home with purchases of $99 or more, while supplies last. If you’ve received an invitation to the LEGO VIP shopping event for Saturday, November 21, you can get the set a week early with the same conditions. VIP members who didn’t get an invite are also able to get the promo as well when the store regularly opens or on Shop@Home.
Build
The Gingerbread House is created on four 6×6 rounded plates which also act as the snow for setting purposes. Although there seems to be a lot of pieces for an exclusive set, it’s because there are a lot of little pieces all around the set. In the front, you have some candy cane colored columns near the door as well as candy cane/mailbox. On the ground, there are some decorative pieces acting as a walkway with lots of snacks like a pie and lollipop. There are also some presents next to the door. Above the door is a wreath made up of a 2×2 round plate with a red stud. It’s simple but it serves its purpose.
The window are made up of 1×1 transparent plates with some peppermint decorations on each side of the window sill as well as in the back.
The roof is very colorful with lots of bright 2×2 round tiles and 1×1 round tiles sprinked everywhere. It doesn’t look like it from the box images but the roof is able to open up using hinged pieces that are connected to the house.
Results
Overall, the LEGO 2015 Seasonal Holiday Exclusive Gingerbread House (40139) is a great set. Both kids and adults will have fun building it as it isn’t that a repetitive of a build. The variety of little decorations that are spread out on the house gives it a very Christmasy look if you’ve ever created a real one.
I think LEGO took it a step up with this year’s holiday exclusives with the Christmas Train (40138) from last month and the Gingerbread House (40139) this month. The part counts are pretty much double from last year while the amount for a qualifying purchase remains the same. The only thing that was missing from this year’s sets are minifigures but I think that is perfectly fine.
Again, this set will be pretty limited as you have only about five days (Nov 21 and Nov 27-30) to make your qualified purchases to be able to get it at LEGO Brand Stores and on Shop@Home.
