If you follow LEGO’s social media pages, you might have seen the image above and sort of a call to action post for LEGO Ideas. Over on their blog post, they’re kicking off a “Creative Ideas Wanted” campaign where they’re wanting people to submit original idea projects and not ones that are based on existing items.
We’ve seen a plethora of Ideas sets that have been released that are based on licensed properties and LEGO is pretty much looking for something original. The best original CUUSOO/Ideas set in my opinion is probably the Exo Suit because it was cool, very good playability, and most importantly not based on anything.
This is sort of a double-edged sword because people tend to go for licensed projects and non-licensed projects seem to fall by the wayside but it’s hard to get support if people don’t know nothing about it and the project doesn’t get exposure. I’ve tried to help promote projects back then but I’ve made a change earlier this year because I get so many requests for a post. It’s gotten to the point where I get a couple a day and if I continued what I did, the site would be nothing but Ideas projects. However, I don’t mind tweeting them out which I do now.
When you visit various LEGO fan sites and Facebook pages over the next month, there’s a good chance you will run into our “Creative Ideas Wanted” campaign. Kicking off on the 26th December and continuing until the end of January, the aim of the campaign is to encourage people to take up the challenge of designing a model that could become the next LEGO product.
Of course we already have many great ideas – over 5,000 active right now – but we’d love to have even more.
Many of your submissions are based on classic movies and TV series. We want to see more original creations such as the Exo-Suit, Birds and the soon-to-be-launched Maze; product ideas that start from scratch and that aren’t based on existing properties.
We hope you will join us in this campaign to encourage LEGO fans to take a look at LEGO Ideas.
