The next LEGO Monkie Kid set that I want to take a look at is Red Son’s Inferno Jet (80019). The set has 299 pieces and retails for $39.99.
Minifigures
There are three minifigures in this set, Monkie Kid, Red Son, and Bob. Monkie Kid has on the flame-orange jacket that has the Monkey King smiling face on the back. The legs are the same dual-molded ones with the black sneakers. The has a pair of teal goggles that go around his neck. His double-sided face shows him with a smirk on one side and an angry look on the other. His accessory is the Golden Staff.
Red Son returns in the wave and he wears his usual red outfit that has a skirt piece around the waist. The legs are purple and has some metallic silver on the knees and toes. He has a double-sided head showing him wearing some pince-nez glasses on one side and an evil smile on the other. He has a couple of accessories which are his Power Glove and a flame energy shooter.
Lastly, we have Bull Clone Bob. The armor that it has seems to be the same one as from the previous Monkie Kid sets. Bob has have some weapons to help him fight Monkie Kid including a flamethrower and a jetpack, both of which are brick-built.
Build
The first part of the build is a mini build of the Flower Fruit Mountain. It uses a number of slope pieces to get the general shape of the mountain and in the middle is a trans-blue hinge plate with a sticker of the waterfall. Inside the mountain, you’ll find a hidden frog. This build is kind of questionable as it doesn’t really compare to the Inferno Jet in terms of size. I guess it’ll look okay if you do like a distance shot of it.
The Inferno Jet is a small-to-medium sized vehicle that has some bull horns in the front. It basically looks like a large engine, especially in the front. There are some stickers for the engine and some flames in the front. There are even more flames using some physical pieces that come out from the sides.
The back area has three thrusters with the two top ones being adjustable. The bottom thruster also doubles up as a handle because the Inferno Jet’s alternate function is sort of like a gun. The front of the jet can be pushed down to reveal some spring loaded missile launchers. Shooting them is easy as pulling the trigger on the bottom of the jet. I will say that the launcher does work very well.
Results
The LEGO Monkie Kid Red Son’s Inferno Jet (80019) is a fun little set that I think kids will enjoy. Obviously the main feature here is the missile launchers and I’m afraid that the design will make kids use it more as a gun than as a jet. Let’s just say the warning in the instructions didn’t apply to me. The Flower Fruit Mountain mini build doesn’t really add much to the overall set but another throw in is always good.
