In my last review of the initial wave of the LEGO DREAMZzz sets, we check out the largest set in the wave with the Nightmare Shark Ship (71469). It comes in at 1,389 pieces and retails for $139.99.
Minifigures
The set comes with minifigures of Nova, Mateo, Izzie, and the Nightmare King. Nova is in her blue and purple pajamas with the sloth printing. Her double-sided head shows her with a smile on one side and sleeping on the other.
Mateo is in his usual blue and green outfit that we’ve seen many times before. His double-sided head shows him with a smile on one side and a smirk on the other. His accessory is he pencil spear.
This version of Z-Blob doesn’t have a body but just a translucent green bulb piece with printing of its eyes. It still has the green rope piece that it can attach to.
Izzie has on the orange outfit with the armor going around the torso. Her double-sided head shows her with smiles on both sides. Her accessory is her translucent sword.
The Nightmare King is only in his second set but he has the same look as before. He’s mostly white with gray wrappings around the torso and legs. The tattered cape that he wears is also a nice looking piece. His double-sided head shows him with his face covered on one side and uncovered on the other. The hood also has the large crown molded on as well. His accessory is the translucent sword.
Snivel has the little body with printing on it and has the large head with the terrifying expression. It has a sword as an accessory.
Susan also has a little body and has an attachment for her wings. She has a fork as an accessory.
Build
The main build of the set is the Nightmare Shark Ship that has a very skeletal look to it with the exposed bones throughout the body. The ribs around the belly area are able to open up to reveal a little bedroom area with a bed and a portrait of the Nightmare King and the Grimspawn.
The head appears to be of the head of a tiger shark represented by the stripes on the stickers. The outh is attached to a mechanism that you can open and close by turning the knob on the right side of the head. In addition, there’s a roped hook that you can reel in by turning the knob on the left side of the head.
The tail doesn’t have much going on there but can move up and down on the hinges.
On to the deck of the ship, Izzie’s Buchu plushie has been captured and stored inside the cabin along with some weapons.
The bowsprit is mounted to the front deck on the shark head and is made up of a blade piece with a lantern clipped beneath it. Behind it are some stud shooters on each side.
The quarterdeck has a sort of a throne behind the wheel.
For one of the alternate builds, the Nightmare Shark Ship turns into a more souped up ship complete with rocket thrusters on each side.
There are also sails attached to the deck area using the large wing pieces as well as smaller wings behind the head. Covering up the cabin, there is now a large eye that is secured using the clips.
For the other build, we have a tank version of the ship. Since it’s a tank, there are now wheels attached to the bottom of the body. The front part of the tank now has some flamethrowers that are on ball joints. On the deck are a couple of crow’s nests.
Lastly, there’s flying creature with a large eye and uses the larger wing pieces.
Results
Although the LEGO DREAMZzz Nightmare Shark Ship (71469) is the highest priced set, it is a rather large set with a good amount of playability. The regular shark ship is a little hard to handle with the slim body and doesn’t sit too well but the rocket-powered one gives it more stability. The tank version seems to give it more bulk as shark is now raised so it looks bigger.
