The Pharrell Williams biopic Piece by Piece will be in theaters later this month and there is a collaboration LEGO set called Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams (10391). The set has 966 pieces and retails for $109.99.
Minifigures
There are two minifigures in the set, Pharrell and his wife Helen. Both minifigures have the same dark gray spacesuit which LEGO labels as titanium-colored. The front shows a silhouette of the spaceship logo while the back has printing for the air tanks. Pharrell is also comes with his iconic red cap.
The supplemental build of the set is the minifigure head abacus. It features 49 different minifigure heads with various skin tones and expressions. 30 of heads are specifically designed for this set. The purpose of the amount of heads is to show the diversity of options that you can use to express yourself.
There is a printed tile at the bottom of the abacus labeled My Phriends. At the top of the stand, there are spots for the Pharrell and Helen minifigures along with spaces for the space helmets.
Build
The main parts of the build include the space shuttle and the launchpad/jet stream. The shuttle is mostly black with some gray on the back thrusters and a brand new drum-lacquered gold windscreen canopy.
There is enough room in the cockpit for both minifigures. The shuttle screen and controls use printed pieces for the designs.
Towards the back, there are some printed tiles of the Atlantis Apts. which is the apartment complex where Pharrell grew up in. The wings also have printed round tiles of the shuttle along with the colored jet stream.
At the back of the shuttle, there is a slot to put the shuttle on to the top of the jet stream at the end of the build.
The last part of the build is the jet stream and the puff of smoke. The foundation of the stream uses a series of window frame sections along with SNOT bricks. Plates sections are then added to each side and they have the different tiles in green, flame orange, azure, and pink.
The base of the jet stream uses some Technic liftarms the stream a slight angle. That base is secured to the smoke with more plates and tiles so even with the angle, there’s no fear of the whole thing tipping over as it is structurally secure.
Build
Overall, the LEGO Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams (10391) is a really nice display piece. The shuttle lifting off with the colorful jet stream just works.
The only downside of the set is that it is a little overpriced. This is mainly due to the large amount of minifigure heads included with the set. The price may be justified as LEGO is celebrating diversity with this set and they hope the heads allows fans to see themselves as part of the set with all the different combinations they offer. That higher price point may not sit well with some fans as they don’t think the set is worth what LEGO is asking for it.
