The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie comes out this December and one of the new main characters in the movie is Shadow the Hedgehog. LEGO has recently released a set featuring the antihero which contains 720 pieces and retailing for $69.99.
Like with all the helmet sets, the build starts with the base. Inside the column, there is a spot for three life preservers which represent the gold coins in the games. The front of the base has a printed Shadow the Hedgehog plaque.
The foundation for Shadow’s head uses a number of angled plates to give its shape. Right in the middle before everything is covered up, there’s a green gem as an Easter egg for one of the Chaos Emeralds.
His cheeks uses some printed wedge curved pieces which shows a slight smirk on his mouth. The eyes use white half circle plates with printed tiles for the pupils.
The forehead has a large printed panel that is connected using hinges but doesn’t connect anywhere by the nose. This gives an unsightly gap in the area by the nose and there’s also the handle on the panel that looks really bad.
The quills on the back of the head are connected using some Technic pins but they fall off extremely easily. The most secure one is the one on the top of the head since it is attached using a ball joint.
Overall the LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog Shadow the Hedgehog (77000) is a fairly mediocre set. This is mainly due to the some of the areas where it is designed. The quills were the some of trouble areas for me because if you handled it wrong, they would just pop off. This is also the case for the column on the stand as well. The final build does look like Shadow and is a good representation of the character but the issues turn me away from it especially at the price point of $70.
