Changes Coming to LEGO Powered Up

The LEGO Powered Up team has released a statement regarding the Powered Up app and what we can expect to see in the future. They have been taking feedback from the LEGO community and have been making changes to the features that will affect both kids and adults who use it.

Dear AFOLs and Powered Up users,

First of all, we want to thank you for being AFOLs and users of Powered Up. Your feedback is always highly valued and vital to our future roadmap and vision of LEGO® Powered Up.

The LEGO® Powered Up app has a wide spectrum of users. From kids using the app as a remote control for their LEGO trains, bat mobile, or their own creations, to really technical users building
amazingly advanced LEGO models, and everyone in between.

We aim to please the entire spectrum of users, without forcing anyone into a one-size-fits-all. We aim to lower the floor so that kids can easily get started with the app. We aim to widen the walls and offer different ways of coding and controlling LEGO models. We aim to raise the ceiling to remove limits for our most advanced users.

This means that when we launch something new, it isn’t always for everyone. Lately, we have launched a few very advanced features (Handset and LPF1 support). We realize that these are way too advanced for kids, but this is not for them – yet. These features is our way of trying to raise the ceiling and making new things possible with

New Member Added to LEGO Certified Professional Program – April 2020

Last week, LEGO announced on the LEGO Ambassador Network that have added a new LEGO Certified Professional to the LCP Program. Korean builder Jae Won Lee has been moved from the Entry Program to the main LCP Program.

If you’re not familiar with what a LEGO Certified Professional is, they are individuals who work with LEGO on their own projects and are recognized by LEGO as trusted business partners. If you watched this past season of LEGO Masters, you may have seen stuff built by Nathan Sawaya who is also a LCP here in the US. You can check out the list of LCPs here.

I’m thrilled to let you know that the Korean LEGO Certified Professional (LCP) Jay has moved from the LCP Entry Program into the LCP program. We are really happy about that as it has been a great pleasure working with Jay in the past two years. He is very excited to continue the LCP journey together with us.

Currently there are 21 LCPs in the program of which 3 LCPs are in the Entry Program and 18 LCPs are in the LCP program.

San Diego Comic Con 2020 Officially Cancelled

You may have seen the big pop culture announcement yesterday but in case you didn’t, it was announced that San Diego Comic Con 2020 has been officially cancelled. It’s not too surprising as businesses still aren’t ready to be opened and probably won’t be for some time due to the COVID-19 situation.

As for the LEGO exclusives that were planned for the event, nobody knows what will happen to them since everyone had to switch strategies. It is possible that LEGO puts them on the Reward Center as a raffle but that would be somewhat unfair for the attendees who were supposed to be there as it was an exclusive thing to them. Either way, we’ll see what LEGO does with the products they had planned for SDCC, if anything.

LEGO Protective Eyewear for Medical Professionals During COVID-19 Pandemic

Various companies have been going out of their way to help during the Coronavirus pandemic and LEGO has stepped into the fray as well. Colleagues on the LEGO Ambassador Network has mentioned that the Region of Southern Denmark (Syddanmark) Facebook Page has posted images of a new protective eyewear that LEGO developed for medical professionals to use as part of their personal protective equipment. Currently organizations such as the Odense University Hospital and Sygehus Lillebælt have been using them and so far it’s been working well and have become part of their regular equipment.

It may not seem like a lot to us but for the medical profession, it’s invaluable at this point. You may remember that LEGO also launched a couple of campaigns last week to help with the COVID-19 situation including donating $50 million to support children in need. It’s good to see companies using their time and resources to help out others when they don’t really have to.

The Castle in the Forest by poVoq is the latest project to achieve 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. The set is inspired by three LEGO Castle sets that were released 30 years ago which were Forestmen’s Hideout (6054), Camouflaged Outpost (6066), and Forestmen’s river Fortress (6077) and they were all combined into one big 2,000 piece set. Some of the play features include areas that open up using hinges.

LEGO DC: Shazam! – Magic & Monsters Trailer Released

Syfy has released a first look at the upcoming direct-to-home movie LEGO DC: Shazam! – Magic & Monsters. Shazam gets to star in his own LEGO animated movie now and is voiced by Sean Astin. The premise of this movie is that Black Adam and Mr. Mind along with the Monster Society of Evil turn the Justice League into kids. The minifigures even got short legs and there are also vehicles that could be in the LEGO Mighty Micros line if it continued on.

LEGO DC: Shazam! – Magic & Monsters releases this spring and Target is the only place so far you can pre-order it in the US. If you’re in the UK, Amazon has it up as well. If you remember from last year, there was a Shazam (30623) polybag that surfaced online but we didn’t know where it came from or where to get it. Perhaps it could be included in the Digital/Blu-Ray Combo Pack.

LEGOLAND New York Grand Opening Delayed Until 2021

It has been announced that the grand opening of LEGOLAND New York this summer has been delayed until 2021. Obviously with the coronavirus situation still not anywhere close to being contained, it’s clear that it would be a bad time to open up an amusement park with hundreds of thousands of people in a single place. LEGOLAND New York was slated to be open on July 4 in Goshen, New York.

In adherence to the evolving restrictions and guidance of the CDC and state and local governments in response to the coronavirus pandemic, we are delaying the opening of LEGOLAND® New York Resort until 2021.

This move is consistent with the closure of venues and postponement of events worldwide. In this unprecedented and challenging time, nothing is more important to us than the health, safety and security of our guests.

If you have purchased an annual pass or single-day ticket, we will honor it when we open in 2021. Please click one of the links below for further information, and email any questions to [email protected]. Due to high volume, replies may be delayed, and we appreciate your patience.

We will continue to monitor the situation in close communication with state and local authorities. Further updates will be provided here on our website, via email, and on our social media pages.

We are grateful for your support and we can’t wait to build unforgettable memories with you and your family in 2021.

LEGO Launches New Initiatives to Support Children and Families Impacted by COVID-19

With the COVID-19 situation still not slowing down any time soon, LEGO has announced two new initiatives that will hopefully help children and families around the world. First they are donating $50 million to support children most in need and ensure they continue to have access to learning through play which helps develop life-long skills. Next they have launched the Let’s Build Together campaign to come up with new ways to provide fun, play-based learning ideas to children and parents. It may not seem like much but anything helps during this time.

With many families staying at home and millions more facing job, food, and medical insecurity, the LEGO Foundation and the LEGO Group have joined forces to address the critical needs of children in these unprecedented times.

We have created two important initiatives to aid all children – from the most vulnerable in refugee camps and war-torn countries to those waiting out a community quarantine.

The first initiative is a US$50 million donation by the LEGO Foundation to support children most in need and ensure they continue to have access to learning through play which helps develop life-long skills. The donation will be split between three groups of partners. They are: Education Cannot Wait, which provides education for children caught in emergencies and protracted crises; a selection of existing LEGO Foundation partners whose work with children and families is under additional pressure from COVID-19; and charity partners serving communities where the LEGO Group has a significant presence. Our aim is to urgently reach crisis-affected children

As we all know by now, the LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga video is their next big project and we basically haven’t heard of any new information since June and there hasn’t even been a release date announced for it. In the LEGO Reward Center, there is a special download for an AFOL Certification Reward Block to signify that you are in a LEGO User Group. It costs zero points and you can use to participate during AFOL Shopping Days during the specified days. It’ll also be sent to your email so you don’t have to log in to the Reward Center to see the badge. I cannot confirm if it shows up for every single person who has a VIP account or just for people who are in a LUG. If you are in a LUG and it doesn’t show up, you’ll have to confirm with your Ambassador to see if you are on their list of members. Of course, you can still use your VIP card with the special sticker to get into AFOL Days.

If you aren’t in a LUG, LEGO has provided a Community Locator so you can find the nearest one to you and there you can inquire to join. Here you can meet like-minded individuals who share the love of LEGO.

Thank you for your continued support.

Rumored LEGO Mosaic Themed Sets Coming Soon

There are rumors of a brand new adult targeted LEGO theme coming soon. According a post on Eurobricks, the theme, potentially called LEGO Wall Art, will be based around mosaics with buildable frames that cost between $100-$150. The initial wave will have four sets from a broad range of subjects including:

Marilyn Monroe (31197) – 3,341 pieces
The Beatles (31198) – 2,933 pieces
Iron Man (31199) – 3,406 pieces
Star Wars (31200) – 3,167 pieces

Word has it that the Beatles set will be a single person but will have enough parts to recreate any of the four members of the band. The Star Wars one is still a mystery as I have read that it could be either Darth Maul or Darth Vader.

As always, these are rumors until LEGO announces them on their social channels or they show up online at verified retailers.

LEGO Trains 40th Anniversary Set (40370) Giveaway Winner Announced

We had almost 4,000 entries but the winner of the set is:

Eric M.

I’ve already emailed the winner and we’ll try to get it to them as soon as we can. Stay tuned as we have another contest very shortly. Hopefully this gives us some us some fun things to do amidst the global pandemic right now. Stay safe everyone.

Update: Since the original winner didn’t respond to my email, I had to choose another winner.

The LEGO Group CEO Releases Statement About Coronavirus Situation

Earlier today, LEGO announced that they have closed all of the LEGO Brand Stores, with the exception of the ones in China. At the same time, LEGO CEO Niels Christiansen has released a statement regarding the Coronavirus situation and what they are doing to keep employees safe.

An open letter from Niels B Christiansen, CEO, The LEGO Group

The health and safety of children and communities worldwide is our top priority.

We are working extremely hard to protect our colleagues, our customers and of course, our youngest fans.

To reduce the risk of the virus spreading further, we’ve rapidly stepped up our efforts in every country where we operate.

We’ve temporarily closed the approximately 150 LEGO® Brand Retail stores we own and operate until at least March 27 in all countries except China. Our online store on LEGO.com remains open. Our retail store colleagues will receive their scheduled wages until this time.

Every colleague whose job allows them to work from home must do so. For colleagues whose job requires them to come to work, we are taking extraordinary measure to safeguard their health. For example, we will conduct temperature checks on employees and implement mandatory hand washing and sanitising. We’ve rearranged our workplaces to ensure that colleagues do not gather in large groups and practice social distancing. Naturally, we have cancelled all travel.

We’re monitoring the situation continuously and will take whatever steps are necessary to promote well-being.

One thing I am certain of is the awesomeness of the people who work at the LEGO

LEGO Brand Stores Closed Due to Coronavirus

LEGO has announced on the LEGO Ambassador Network that due to the Coronavirus situation around the world, all LEGO Brand Stores will be closed until March 27. The only exception is with the stores in China. LEGO Shop@Home will still be open but depending on your country, delivery services may be slightly impacted as well.

These days of uncertainty it’s important and stay safe. Yesterday, we closed all of our owned and operated LEGO® Brand Retail Stores with the exception of China up to and including March 27. Thousands of people visit our stores each day, and despite all the precautions we had taken to remain open we could no longer guarantee a safe environment for colleagues and costumers.

The online shop at LEGO.com is still open and we continue to work hard to meet costumers requests and wishes. We are seeing shoppers are buying LEGO sets to help them through these tough times. And at the same time, we will navigate with attention to everyone’s health and wellbeing.

LEGO Build-a-Minifigure Tower Temporarily Unavailable

It looks like the Coronavirus situation has been affecting things more and more by each day and the latest one is at LEGO Stores here in the US. As you can see from the image above, the LEGO Build-a-Minifigure tower has been cleared out completely. This was at the Las Vegas location but I think all locations across the world will be doing the same thing soon.

If you saw some of my previous posts, LEGO has been doing a lot to help with the situation. First they have temporarily closed the LEGO House for few weeks, possibly longer, and they have also turned off Bricks & Pieces for ordering to keep workers who pick the parts safe. LEGO has also instructed some employees to work from home as well. In the LEGO fan community, many events have been cancelled or moved to a different date so far.

LEGO Bricks & Pieces Shut Down Due to Coronavirus

The Coronavirus pandemic has been causing a lot of short time issues around the world and the latest one is with LEGO Bricks & Pieces. A few days ago Danish authorities announced the closure of Denmark and that pretty much affected most of LEGO’s operations. With Bricks & Pieces, it affects the number of people who are picking the parts for the orders. To keep the workers safe, LEGO has decided to shut it down temporarily but everything else on LEGO Shop@Home is still normal. There’s no word on when it will be back up but I assume it’ll just go back up without any announcements so keep checking on it.

Due to COVID-19 we’ve had to introduce special measures at all our sites to reduce the risk of infection, including reducing the number of people who can work together at any one time to pick bricks for Bricks & Pieces. Buying bricks therefore isn’t available at the moment. This only applies to Bricks & Pieces – everything else is business as usual. We’ll have the service back up and running as soon as possible.

LEGO Super Mario Theme Details Revealed

Just like that, LEGO has revealed some sets and information about the upcoming LEGO Super Mario theme.

“Designers from both companies join forces to create a new physical play experience that brings Super Mario to life in the world of LEGO® bricks, launching later this year.

The LEGO Group announced a partnership with Nintendo that will change the way people interact with Super Mario in the physical world and engage in LEGO® experiences.

Both companies share a passion for innovation and play and their collaboration has led to a reimagination of the LEGO building experience, enabling an entirely new way to play inspired by the beloved video game icon, Super Mario.

Neither a video game nor a traditional LEGO brick-based set, LEGO® Super Mario™ is a new product line that features an interactive LEGO Mario figure who collects coins in real-life game levels created with LEGO bricks. The new line will let kids experience the playful world of Super Mario like never before. Super Mario will be cbrought to life in the physical LEGO world and new levels of challenge and styles of play will be part of the iconic LEGO experience enjoyed by generations.

The news was also shared in a video posted by the LEGO Group and Nintendo earlier today.

The video, which hints at what fans can expect when LEGO Super Mario launches later this year, shows a player using an interactive Mario figure to collect coins in a real-life game level that has been created with LEGO bricks.

LEGO House Tree of Creativity (4000026) to be Discontinued

If you’ve been wanting to go to the LEGO House to pick up the exclusive Tree of Creativity (4000026) set, you may want to do so soon as LEGO has announced that it will be discontinued. The set will be available until they run out of stock so I’m assuming they don’t have a lot of inventory left. There is a special arrangement for some sets to be held back for attendees of AFOL Day in LEGO House in September.

The shelf space that is used for the set will be used for a new exclusive product that will be out in late May 2020 so stay tuned for that reveal in the next few months. Check out the press release below.

LEGO House Tree of Creativity” to discontinue

Since the opening of LEGO House it has been an important milestone to create exclusive products that relate to LEGO House and adds to the LEGO House experience for the guests. The first exclusive product launched was the LEGO House Architecture (21037) in 2017, followed by the LEGO House Tree of Creativity (4000026) in 2018, and then the LEGO House Dinosaurs (40366) in 2019.

LEGO House has now decided to discontinue the LEGO House Tree of Creativity – in order to make shelf space for a new exclusive product arriving in late May 2020.

The Tree of Creativity was originally launched as a great reproduction of the 15,6 metre tall Tree of Creativity in LEGO Square. The most iconic features were resized into the retail model. LEGO

LEGO Eiffel Tower Magnet Build (854011) Review

LEGO Eiffel Tower Magnet Build (854011)

Releasing in a few days is a new LEGO Eiffel Tower Magnet Build (854011) that will be available for $9.99. LEGO has kind enough to send one of these sets over to check out a little early. It has 29 pieces and it features Paris’ most well known landmark. I’m not sure why LEGO chose this particular landmark to make a set out of but hopefully they continue with it.

LEGO Eiffel Tower Magnet Build (854011)

The build is extremely simply but there are some nice pieces included with it mainly the 4x4x1 magnet brick. The cloud piece and green blade gives the Eiffel Tower a nice background scenery. The bonjour plaque on the bottom is a sticker so that’s up to you if you want to put it on or not.

LEGO Eiffel Tower Magnet Build (854011)

These kind of sets are very miscellaneous and it caters to a very niche market. I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it but if you’ve been to Paris and would like a memento, this Eiffel Tower Magnet Build (854011) would be a decent item. The set will be available starting on March 1.

Thank you to LEGO for sending in this set for me to review. The content above represents my own opinion and not the company. Review sets sent in does not guarantee a positive review.

LEGO Ideas Indiana Jones Trilogy Achieves 10,000 Supporters

The Indiana Jones Trilogy by BenBuildsLego is the latest project to achieve 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. The microscale build features scenes and the significant artifacts from the three original Indiana Jones movies (we don’t talk about the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull). The project also proposes three character minifigures from the films as well. The back of the build also implements additional microscale scenes from the respective movies as well. In their 8,500 supporter update, the creator decided to go with a Short Round minifigure instead of Indy’s dad so it’s possible to have all four characters if chosen.

LEGO at the 2020 New York Toy Fair

We probably will finally see sets that were reported on from the Nuremberg Toy Fair so that’ll hold us over for now. I personally won’t be there but The Brick Fan will have a representative on hand for photographs and set details so stay tuned.

LEGO Night Mode Lighting Kits Controversy

This morning, LEGO shocked the world by introducing LEGO Night Mode which is their in-house lighting kits for official sets. So far, the response for it has been overwhelmingly positive because we can now potentially have first-party lighting kits as part of the LEGO User Lab but unfortunately smaller companies who make third-party kits are now wondering what will happen to their business if LEGO does go ahead with the idea.

One of those businesses is Brickstuff who has a ton of products out there on the market and as a result, they have other companies that steal their ideas and make copycat products similar to it. An image came out of Copenhagen today showing a subcontractor that LEGO used on the Night Mode kits and they are called Light My Bricks. According to Brickstuff, this particular company pretty much pirated Brickstuff’s design and have been selling them on their own platform. In the Medium post, Brickstuff did mention that LEGO had reached out to them to perhaps work with them to create the Night Mode kits but was ultimately not chosen.

I’m not sure if LEGO knows about LMB stealing Brickstuff’s design or not but they should take a look into it before proceeding any further. I have no reason to doubt Brickstuff as they have first-hand experience with the LEGO User Lab but something that could be a great product has already been marred with controversy on the same day of the reveal.

LEGO within the last hour has just released a statement on … Continue

New LEGO Night Mode Light Kits Displayed in Copenhagen

The LEGO World Copenhagen event kicked off today and it looks like there are some new light kits that are being shown off called LEGO Night Mode. There are four that are displayed for different sets in various themes including the LEGO Ideas Tree House, LEGO Creator Downtown Diner, LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle, and LEGO Creator Ford Mustang. Each Light Kit comes with a designated number of LED Lights as well as Expansion Boards.

It was reported that these are actually for sale yet but LEGO is just getting feedback for them. This is actually great news for LEGO purists as they don’t have to rely on third party companies. What do you think of these new LEGO Night Mode Light Kits that LEGO could be planning on releasing in the future?

Also, the filters change to correspond to the proper experience whether it be for Product Ideas, Contests, or Activities. It’s nothing out of this world but it makes the user experience a bit better.

The other update is to Activities where you can now “Like” entries. This helps recognize Activity entries that are popular. Again, nothing too spectacular but it enhances the site more.

LEGO Wins Final Decisions in Major Intellectual Property Lawsuits Against Lepin

LEGO has announced that they have won final decisions in in major intellectual property lawsuits against Lepin. The Guangzhou courts have decided to uphold all the rulings of the infringement cases back from 2018. This means that Shantou Meizhi Model Co., Ltd will have to pay LEGO a total of RMB 4.7 million in damages and have to make a public apology. This is only a minor setback to Lepin as they have already changed company names to continue producing counterfeit products.

The LEGO Group wins final decisions in major intellectual property lawsuits against Lepin manufacturer in China

The LEGO Group announced today that it has received favourable final decisions from the Guangzhou Intellectual Property Court against the appeals raised by defendants of multiple intellectual property infringement cases in China. It marks a significant legal victory for the LEGO Group to combat against imitators.

The court decided to uphold all of the first-instance rulings on the 18 copyright infringement and one unfair competition cases, which were handed down in favour of the LEGO Group in November 2018. These second-instance decisions are final and have entered into legal effect immediately upon issuance.

In these cases, Shantou Meizhi Model Co., Ltd. and its affiliates are liable of manufacturing and selling the infringing Lepin products. The 18 LEGO® sets and corresponding LEGO minifigures at dispute, are ruled as artworks protected under China Copyright Law belonging to the LEGO Group. Unauthorized copies of the same constitute copyright infringement, said the court.

New Food Concept Coming to LEGO House

LEGO has closed the LE GOURMET restaurant at the LEGO House and will introducing a new food concept in which you can name the restaurant.

Guest record and new food concept in LEGO House

2019 was a huge success in LEGO® House, reaching no less than 281,786 paying guests and thus a 15% growth compared to 2018. But this success comes with a cost, says Managing Director Jesper Vilstrup:

“We are really proud that we in 2019 exceeded our expectations for the number of guests in both the Experience Zones and in the public area of LEGO Square. But unfortunately having this many guests means that we cannot provide the dining experience we would like to in our eateries – the capacity is simply too low. And that applies both to the kitchen and in the restaurant areas.”

Therefore, management has made the decision to close the fine-dining restaurant, LE GOURMET, and the restaurant will therefore not open with the rest of the house after the winter close-down on January 18, 2020.

Jesper Vilstrup says:

“Closing LE GOURMET has been a difficult decision as we basically love the restaurant and the idea of having a great gourmet restaurant in Billund. On the other hand, it is no secret that it has been difficult to attract a continuous flow of guests into the restaurant. And when you consider that we have capacity challenges for our dining LEGO House guests during the day, it ultimately makes sense to utilise the space better.”

Already in weeks 6 and 7,

The Brick Fan Turns 8 Years Old

Again, thank you everyone for visiting and for being a brick fan yourself.

LEGO Creator Old Trafford – Manchester United (10272) Overseas Promotion Revealed

The LEGO Creator Old Trafford – Manchester United (10272) set was just announced earlier today and it looks like there is an overseas promotion for the set that has also been revealed. Courtesy of Dylan Chow, it looks like there will be a build for The United Trinity (6322264) which features minifigures of George Best, Denis Law, and Sir Bobby Charlton. If you’re not familiar with them, they helped Manchester United become the first English club to win the European Cup in 1968. I believe this is strictly an Asia exclusive for purchasing Old Trafford and you can only get it by redeeming it at the location stated on the card.

It is on sale for 25% off the regular price or about $10 off. You can either save it for this year to open for Advent or use the set for parts. Either way, a deal is a deal and this sale price should have been the original price for the licensed advent calendars.

LEGO Ideas Mary Poppins, Cherry Tree Lane Achieves 10,000 Supporters

The Mary Poppins, Cherry Tree Lane by Disneybrick55 is the latest project to achieve 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. It features the main part of Cherry Tree Lane where the Banks family lives along with some side buildings. What’s interesting about this project is that it is build like a movie set where the back part of the houses are open but there are details inside the houses. The project also proposes minifigures of Mary Poppins, Bert, George Banks, Winifred Banks, Jane Banks, Michael Banks, Admiral Boom, and Mr. Dawes Jr. This is the first project to reach the LEGO Ideas First 2020 Review Stage.

LEGO Lunar New Year Dragon (40395) Building Instructions

Signups for the event started earlier this week but you can try to see if there are any spots left and it is intended for kids ages 6-14.

As for the build itself, there aren’t any exclusive parts but the 1x1x2/3 bow plate is still fairly new as it was only introduced last year.

LEGO Chinese Traditional Festival Sets Now Available on Shop@Home

The Year of the Rat promotion starts on January 13 but the two sets will probably sell out and go on backorder status before the promo even starts so I suggest buying them now if you really want them.

LEGO Newsstand Review & Building Instructions

The LEGO Newsstand Building Event was held at LEGO Brand Stores yesterday and I was able to attend my store to build it and take home. I was also allowed to take the building instructions with me so I can scan it and share with you guys who weren’t able to attend. As far as parts are concerned, I believe the 1×6 sand blue plates are exclusive. There were sand blue plates released before but they were last used in 2003. Some of the other sand blue pieces used were only in the LEGO Stranger Things The Upside Down (75810) and LEGO Hidden Side Shrimp Shack Attack (70422). As for the purpose of the build, my store didn’t have the 1×6 plates and they substituted dark gray ones for them which was a bummer. I’m not sure if other stores had the same issue or not.

The build itself is pretty cool and it complements the new LEGO Creator Bookshop (10270) very well. I will say the instructions could have been better. Steps 3 and 4 as well as 9 and 10 could have been separated by each shelf. The shelves are very flimsy and it would have been better to put the items for each shelf instead of building the shelves first then putting all the items on. All in all, getting this 155 piece set for free was awesome since it would have probably cost $10-15 if LEGO sold it by itself. Below are the building instructions for the set which you save.… Continue

LEGO DOTS Coming in March 2020

Way back when, there was a rumor of a new LEGO theme called LEGO DOTS which was supposed to be released last year but it never happened. It looks like the theme will be coming later this year as the LEGO 1HY catalogs show a page stating LEGO DOTS will be coming in March 2020. The page only shows some girls being excited but that’s pretty much the extent of it. It has been widely reported that the theme would be based around buildable LEGO jewelry. Perhaps the Justice partnership could finally be of value as LEGO could sell LEGO DOTS at the stores.

What Classic LEGO Set Would You Like to See Reissued?

It is now 2020 and many of us have been fans of LEGO for many years, some of you even decades. Each year LEGO releases brand new sets and sometimes even new themes, whether it be in-house IP or licensed ones. This is all fine and dandy especially since LEGO’s main audience are kids but what about the adults?

We also are builders but for some of us, we are also collectors. If you’re a collector like I am, I like nostalgia. I like the old stuff that remind me of my childhood. LEGO has released some new sets that harken back to some original sets like the Taj Mahal (10256) and Carousel (10257) but that’s about it for the larger sets. The most recent thing were the LEGO Star Wars – 20th Anniversary Edition sets which were pretty decent.

Fans have been asking for LEGO to do more stuff like this for years but they haven’t budged that much. The hype in recent years is that other toy companies have been releasing new products that resemble the old school toys from our childhood. These companies include NECA, Super7, and Hasbro and they have taken strides to release toys like the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Thundercats, and Transformers Reissue figures, respectively, and fans have been eating them up like hotcakes. If LEGO would do something similar, there would surely be a market for it.

As you can see above, the one that I want is the Deep Freeze Defender from Ice Planet 2002. Some sets … Continue

LEGOLAND Fire Academy (40393) Now Available at Parks and Discovery Centers

I haven’t talked about this set yet but LEGOLAND parks and Discovery Centers are now selling a new exclusive set called the LEGOLAND Fire Academy (40393). It has 221 pieces and retails for $18. If you’ve been to any LEGOLAND parks, the Fire Academy is a staple attraction at the parks. Attendees are able to ride the fire engine by pumping the crank to the building and shoot some water at window where the “fire” is happening. The past few years, LEGO has been releasing sets that have featured various attractions at the parks. Even though they are technically exclusive to LEGOLAND, some of these sets have made their way to LEGO Brand Stores here in San Diego.

Last Weekend for LEGO Star Wars Miniland at LEGOLAND California

IMG_8260

Just a heads up if you’re in the southern California area this weekend. Monday is the last day to see the LEGO Star Wars Miniland area at LEGOLAND California so this is the last weekend that they will have it on display.

The 1:20 scale LEGO Star Wars Miniland has been on display at the park for the past eight years and they have been expanding it by adding scenes from the Star Wars Saga with the last one being from The Force Awakens.

There’s no word on what will be replacing LEGO Star Wars Miniland but it will surely be missed as it is one of the more popular attractions at the park. LEGOLAND California curiously has been removing traces of Star Wars with them cancelling Star Wars Days and now this.

LEGO Taiwan Year of the Rat Promotions

The Year of the Rat is coming up in just a few weeks and LEGO Taiwan has put out a pretty interesting advertisement for the holiday. Mainly, they have posted an image showing all the animals on the zodiac. A majority of these minifigures are official minifigures from past LEGO Collectible Minifigures waves while others are mashups or recolors from existing minifigure parts. Some of the parts could be used for future minifigures as well.

Some other promotions LEGO has going on across the Pacific are the little brick-built items that will be given away during specific dates. They all look pretty cool but I do like the vase and the pellet drum.

As for us here in the US, we also have a LEGO Seasonal Year of the Rat promotion on LEGO Shop@Home from January 13-26 with purchases of $80 or more. In addition, there are two Chinese Festival sets that will be releasing on January 10 with the Lion Dance (80104) and Chinese New Year Temple Fair (80105).

LEGO Minifigure Trading Rumored to be Ending at LEGOLAND California

LEGOLAND California Star Wars Days 2015

If you’ve ever been to any LEGOLAND parks, you may have noticed there are LEGO minifigure trading posts set up throughout the park for attendees to trade their minifigures for other ones. There’s a new rumor at LEGOLAND California saying that they may be removing them before The LEGO Movie World attraction opens up later this year.

An employee told of the attendees who was there today that it was too expensive to maintain. It’s worth noting that they have noticed the park has reduced the number of trading posts and employees don’t have minifigures on their badges as much as before. This could all be a rumor but signs are pointing that the minifigure trading will be going away soon. I’m not sure if this will be the same for other LEGOLAND parks or Discovery Centers or if it is just for the one here. Thanks to Hank for the heads up.

The Brick Fan 2019 Recap

It seemed that 2019 went by extremely fast and we’re already into the new year. That means that we can now take a look back at some of the statistics and other things that happened on The Brick Fan last year. This is probably one of my favorite times of the year simply because I like to see how my numbers stack up to previous years and also assess what I can do to improve.

We ended the year with 22,534,938 page views which is 51% more than in 2018. I’m not sure why the massive increase but I’ll gladly take it. As a result, unique views and first time visitors also dramatically increased as well.

One thing that is curious is that October’s traffic dropped a lot and I’m not sure why. There were 87 posts during the month which is on par compared to the other months of the year.

Our biggest traffic day was on November 19 with 121,434 page views. This was during the time when images of the 2020 sets started surfacing online. We finished off the year with 932 posts which is a bit more than previous years.

On to social media counts, we’re still slowly growing on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Facebook now has 15,845 followers (11% increase), Twitter has 9,513 followers (18% increase), and Instagram has 15,254 followers (16% increase). The subreddit now currently has 404 readers subscribed. No that is not a page error for you programmers.

LEGO Steve Harvey Bust Spiked by Gronk

I can’t imagine how long it took designers to create it and if they knew that was going to happen. Anyways, Happy New Year to everyone and it’s time to get out there and build those new LEGO sets!

LEGO Fast & Furious Set Rumored for 2020

There’s a new LEGO 2020 set rumor that has stirred the pot again that could feature The Fast and the Furious franchise. Brick Fanatics is reporting that we could see a set based on something from the popular franchise. The rumor is that the set will be a larger style vehicle and not minifigure based. There were also rumors a few months ago that it could be a LEGO Technic Ultimate set based on Brian’s 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS from the first movie, similar to the Bugatti Chiron (42083).

It’ll be interesting to see how the Eclipse or any other Fast & Furious vehicle is translated into LEGO whether it be Technic style or maybe something for the Creator line. It’s worth noting that Fast & Furious 9 will be hitting theaters in May so there could be a cross-promotion for the movie and the set around that time. As always, these are strictly rumors until LEGO announces it.

LEGO xtra Sports Accessories (40375) Polybag Review

LEGO xtra Sports Accessories (40375)

I’m back to reviewing some of the LEGO 2020 sets and today I have a small one with the LEGO xtra Sports Accessories (40375) polybag. It has 36 pieces and retails for $3.99. If you’re not familiar with the LEGO xtra theme, it is basically sets that are added accessories that can be used for various settings.

For this Sports Accessories polybag, there are pieces of equipment used for various sports. Some of the items included are a pair of skis along with ski poles and a helmet. There are also some ice skates as well as roller skates with its respective helmet. To be used with those, there are a pair of hockey sticks, goal posts, and puck. In addition, there’s also an archery target with a bow and arrow. Lastly, there’s a pearl-gold trophy.

Overall, the LEGO xtra theme isn’t for everybody but it is available for those who would like some extra accessories for their displays. At $4 a polybag, you can get a decent amount of specialized parts that you usually don’t find in every set.

As a result of this revelation, a spin-off LEGO WB movie called The Billion Brick Race that was in the works has also been nixed and The Book of Life director Jorge R. Gutierrez has released some concept art of some of the character designs for the movie. He describes the movie as “a racing film about race, privilege and gentrification with references to all my favorite 80s and 90s cop and action movies.” Too bad that this movie took so long to conceptualize as Warner Bros. focused more on other LEGO movies like The LEGO Batman Movie and The LEGO Ninjago Movie.

LEGO FORMA Not Launching Any Further

Late last night, LEGO FORMA released probably their last update informing backers and followers that FORMA will not be be moving forward with any additional products. Also, they stated that leftover inventory of the UK version of the Koi (81000) will only be sold at Shop@Home UK. If you still want one, now is the time to jump on it. If you’re outside of the UK, I would suggest asking a friend who lives there and is able to get you one or use a reshipper service. It’s unfortunate that LEGO FORMA won’t be moving forward but maybe LEGO could do another crowdsourcing product in the future as FORMA was a learning experience for them.

LEGO DC Comics Collectible Minifigures (71026) Confirmed Price Increase on Shop@Home

A few weeks ago, I reported that the price for the LEGO DC Comics Collectible Minifigures (71026) would be raising to $4.97 at Walmart and I can now also confirm that they have also been raised on Shop@Home. For those who didn’t think it was true, LEGO has listed the product page and it clearly shows that each minifigure pack will be $4.99 each and will be released on January 1.

Again, I’m not sure why the price increase but fans aren’t happy about it. This change will definitely affect buying decisions as some before would just purchase a whole box to forgo feeling for each one. Thanks to David for the heads up.

Universal Pictures in Talks with LEGO to Develop New Film Properties

It looks like we can expect some more LEGO movies coming to the big screen in the near future. Variety is reporting that Universal Pictures is in talks with The LEGO Group to develop new film properties based on the bricks.

LEGO themed movies have been pretty popular in the past few years with such movies as The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie however there were also some misses like The LEGO Ninjago Movie and The LEGO Movie 2 whose numbers didn’t live up to expectations.

There’s still another LEGO movie announced back in 2015 called The Billion Brick Race that is supposedly still being worked on. There hasn’t been any news on that since last year when it was reported that the movie was losing its director.

With LEGO films also comes sets based on the movies so that also opens up the portfolio as to what LEGO wants to do. What film properties would you like to see in LEGO form?

LEGO Powered Up 3.0 Coming Soon

Last year, LEGO launched the LEGO Powered Up system and soon, they will be releasing the newest update for it which is LEGO Powered Up 3.0. One of the major changes to it is that it will support the latest LEGO Technic hardware. For those who have multiple hubs, you will be able to connect up to four hubs. Plus there’s a slight UI change and it’ll be cleaner and easier to use.

Ready for an early Christmas present? We are super excited to reach this milestone in our digital system in play, with LEGO Powered Up 3.0. With this update we hope to further empower your creativity and enable all of you to rebuild the world. Also, we have a fresh new look!

What’s new?

For those of you that have more than one hub, good news, you are now able to connect, address, code, and control multiple hubs (up to four actually).

The app now fully supports the new LEGO TECHNIC hardware. You are now able to connect the new LEGO TECHNIC hub, and use the internal tilt sensor, as well as the new LEGO TECHNIC motors. For the real techy ones, the app can read values from internal sensors (orientation (X, Y, Z), and acceleration (X, Y, Z) of the TECHNIC Medium Hub (Hub128). From the app you can pair motors on port AB, and CD. The app also supports the TECHNIC Large Linear Motor (Motor no. 2) and TECHNIC XL Linear Motor (Motor no. 3). From the app you can regulate power,

LEGO Star Wars Christmas X-Wing (4002019) Videos

Now that the LEGO Star Wars Christmas X-Wing (4002019) employee gift is no longer a secret, LEGO has released a few videos for it. These videos include LEGO Star Wars Creative Director Jens Kronvold Frederiksen talking about the history of LEGO Star Wars and Designer Joseph Patrick Kyde doing a short designer video for the X-Wing. The other videos show LEGO Owner Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen and Chairman Jorgen Vig Knudstorp playing with it with some commentary. Kristiansen also talks about LEGO Star Wars being the first licensed theme and releasing the first sets back in 1999. These videos are pretty rare as LEGO doesn’t do much of these kinds but it’s nice to see them taking time to film them and releasing them for fans.

Brick Fanatics Magazine Ending

Brick Fanatics has announced that their in-house magazine will be ending as of today. The magazine started a year and half ago with the publication coming out monthly. Brick Fanatics will now be using those resources and focusing on other projects that “offer a greater and more direct LEGO experience to readers.” Subscribers will be getting a refund for issues left on the subscription. You’ll have to email them at [email protected] with your name and order number. It’s sad to see another LEGO magazine go away but in the digital age, it’s hard to rely on print media, especially for news.

Brick Fanatics Magazine to conclude

Brick Fanatics Magazine, the print publication dedicated to building your world of LEGO, will cease production from Issue 12

After 18 months of hard work and fun, 12 editions of Brick Fanatics Magazine packed full of brick-based content and some quite remarkable, overwhelming support from readers, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the publication will cease production, with Issue 12 the last issue released.

We have learned a great deal during the creation, production and release of Brick Fanatics Magazine, during each issue generating and tailoring content to an intelligent, ever-changing LEGO audience, always with the aim that our tagline set out – building your world of LEGO.

It is with that message and ambition in mind, and with what we have learned during the course of producing Brick Fanatics Magazine, that we have come to this decision. There are many ways that we can build your world

LEGO Classic Space Galaxy Explorers Geeky Jerseys Back in Stock Again

Geeky Jerseys has again brought back their popular LEGO Classic Space jersey for sale again for a limited time. The only differences from the previous releases is that these are not customizable and will only have name SPACEMAN on the back with the number 85 which corresponds to one of the bigger years in LEGO Space history. Also the price of the jersey has been raised to $109.

I literally just received my jersey from the last release and I will say that they are pretty high quality. One downside is that it took three months to receive it but that is because each jersey is handmade. They do sell out fairly quickly so if you want one, now is your chance because they don’t sell it all the time.

Again, not a sponsored post. I just think they’re cool because I’m a LEGO Space fan.

LEGO Releases Video Discussing New Train Wheels

LEGO has released a new and rare video on the LEGO Ambassador Network featuring designers talking about the design change with the train wheels. The new wheels uses plastic instead of the metal axle and it allows for more flexibility when building your trains but there are other benefits. During the side by side comparison, the trains with the new wheels went around the track faster and it also improves battery consumption. Since the train wheels are made from plant based materials instead of using the metal bar, it is cheaper for LEGO to produce and that is passed down to us by giving more bricks in the sets. If you have any questions or comments about the new LEGO train wheels, feel free to leave them below and LEGO will be gathering feedback and try to answer questions about it.

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Price Increase Confirmed on Brickseek

A few months ago, we first reported that the price of the LEGO Collectible Minifigures will be increasing in 2020 and it looks like that has been confirmed by Brickseek. The LEGO DC Comics Collectible Minifigures (71026) are now out at Toys R Us in Canada as well as to a few RLFM sites and we can see the UPC number for the minifigures as 673419319362. Crosschecking that on Brickseek, it shows that the price has jumped to $4.97 which is Walmart pricing but it pretty much confirms that they will be $4.99 per pack.

Again, I’m not sure why the price has increased but note that for this wave, each minifigure will have a jumper plate along a trans-clear piece for action poses. I doubt those two additional pieces are the reason for the dollar increase but there could be other behind the scenes things that also factored into it.

Life-Sized LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron Now at LEGOLAND California

The life-sized LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron has landed at LEGOLAND California and park attendees will be able to see for a limited time. It is displayed at one of the entrances of The Big Shop and you’ll be able to see the car in every angle. It consists of over 1 million Technic elements and took designers and builders over 13,000 hours to create. There’s no word on when the Chiron will be displayed until but now is a great once in a lifetime opportunity to see it.

It may not be Santa’s sleigh, but it’s built with more than one million LEGO® Technic elements, features more than 2,000 LEGO electric motors and more than 4,000 LEGO Technic gears, and is a one-of-a-kind replica of the world’s fastest production car…the first- ever life-size and drivable LEGO® Bugatti Chiron is on display at LEGOLAND® California Resort for the holidays for a limited time starting December 5.

Rumored LEGO Double VIP Points Event This Weekend

I have some good intel that we will be getting another Double VIP Points event this weekend at LEGO Brand Stores and on Shop@Home. It is not listed on the December 2019 Store Calendar but it will run alongside some other promotions including the LEGO Creator Mini Gingerbread House (40337) and the LEGO Star Wars 20th Anniversary Obi-Wan Kenobi (30624) minifigure. This will most likely be the last Double VIP Points event for this year so it’s a pretty good time to get the last of your holiday shopping in.

LEGO Creator Volkswagen Beetle (10252) Amazon Sale – December 2019

Even though the top two shopping days of the year have already passed, there are still deals to be found including the LEGO Creator Volkswagen Beetle (10252). It is currently priced at $69.99 which is 30% off the regular price and a very good deal for this set. It doesn’t seem like this is retiring any time soon but any discount on it is good.

LEGO DC Comics Collectible Minifigures (71026) Character Images

A few days ago we got our first look at the upcoming LEGO DC Comics Collectible Minifigures (71026) and today we now have a clearer look at the individual characters from the wave via The Minifigure Store. Again, there are 16 minifigures to collect and each are pretty detailed including a number of them who are LEGO minifigures for the first time. There is a rumor that the price of the minifigures will be increasing to $4.99 each so some fans will be more selective on who to get.

Rumored LEGO Masters Bag Promotion in Mid-December

For those who aren’t keen on LEGO switching out plastic bags to paper bags next year, there’s a rumor that there will be a new promotion happening possibly mid-month that could sway your opinion. I’ve been told that there will be a LEGO Masters bag free with any purchase and it’s possible that it might be a reusable one. Obviously LEGO will definitely try to promote the show before the series airs in February. Take this as a rumor for now because LEGO has been doing promotions that aren’t listed on the store calendars.

LEGO 2019 Employee Gift Revealed

LEGO employees have started getting their 2019 Christmas gift and this year’s gift is pretty cool if you’re a fan of a particular theme. Vice president of design, Matthew Ashton, has shared an image on Twitter of what employees will be receiving this year. Obviously there are some, including LEGO Brand Store employees, who probably haven’t gotten theirs yet so I won’t totally spoil it. I’ve included the image below but it is hidden until you decide to reveal it. It’s a pretty cool item that any employee would be glad to receive whether it be for their collection or for some extra cash for the holidays.

LEGO Ideas Vintage Car Fan Vote for Future Gift with Purchase Promotion

Here’s a cool little contest over on LEGO Ideas that I just found out about which couple impact a future gift with purchase promotion. A few months ago, LEGO ran a contest for fans to build a vintage car that could be used in the streets of LEGO Modular Buildings. There are a number of great submissions and the best were chosen for a fan vote and the winning build will become an official gift with purchase set. There are quite a few that would look great as a standalone set so it’s cool for LEGO to get input on what we will be getting. The deadline for the fan vote is December 4 so you only have a little bit of time left to choose your favorite vintage car.
