LEGO Ninjago 2014 Background Story

Over at the LEGO Club, there is an inside scoop of the background story for the return of the Ninjago series. The last episode of the Masters of Spinjitzu series aired over a year ago and the “Rebooted” series should be returning sometime in December. Below is a synopsis of what to expect when Ninjago makes its long-awaited return.

It’s been a long time since the Overlord was defeated by Lloyd the Golden Ninja. While Lloyd tours Ninjago celebrating his victory, the original four ninja — Kai, Cole, Jay, and Zane — have become teachers in Sensei Wu’s Youth Academy. Besides being bored in class all day, Kai and the rest of the ninjas dream of the days when they fought the forces of evil, but in the updated and technologically advanced world of Ninjago, there is no need for ninja any longer.

But that changes soon enough … trouble brews in New Ninjago City, famed inventor Cyrus Borg starts acting strange, and our four heroes get new weapons, new gear, and a new evil to fight!

With Nya, Kai’s sister, by their side, the ninja join forces once again to protect the people of Ninjago! Lloyd is back stronger than ever, and the evil Lord Garmadon is now the peaceful Sensei Garmadon! Join the adventure to see new friends and favorite heroes as the world of Ninjago is once again caught in a battle between good and evil!

LEGO Ninjago Nindroid MechDragon (70725) Now Available At Toys R Us?

LEGO Ninjago Nindroid MechDragon (70725)

It looks like the 2014 LEGO Ninjago sets are starting to hit shelves at Toys R Us stores a little early. According to the website, the Nindroid MechDragon (70725) has a green check mark next to it saying it is sold in stores. If you’re looking to pick up the new Ninjago sets, you may want to call up your local Toys R Us store to see if they currently have them in stock or not. TRU has the set listed at $79.99 which is what we reported as the price a few weeks ago but no option to purchase online.

Enter the MechDragon! Sensei Garmadon and Lloyd are trying to escape with the Techno-Blade in Nya’s car, but Sensei Wu, who has turned evil, and the Nindroids are flying the MechDragon in hot pursuit. Drive clear of the MechDragon’s fast-spinning circular saw blades on the huge wings and dodge the missiles fired from the cannon. Evade its mechanical mouth, giant claws and dangerous whipping tail. Evil Wu is at the controls with two other armed Nindroids below ready to jump off into battle. Don’t let them capture the Ninja and imprison him in the hidden cell to power their MechDragon. Speed away in Nya’s car and fire the harpoon and unleash flick missiles from the hidden cannons to repel them. Includes 5 minifigures with weapons: Sensei Garmadon, Lloyd, Evil Wu, General Cryptor and a Nindroid.

LEGO Ninjago 2014 More Set Images

LEGO Ninjago Hover Hunter (70720)

A couple more LEGO Ninjago 2014 set images have come forward from Brixit.

For the Hover Hunter (70720), we get Cole and a Nindroid and a hovercraft-like vehicle that has some saw blades in the front.

On the NinjaCopter (70724), you get four minifigures, Zane, a new character called Pixal, General Cryptor, and a Nindroid. The NinjaCopter is driven by Pixal with Zane in the back. I’m guessing that Pixal is related to Zane and could be his mother.

LEGO Ninjago NinjaCopter (70724)

The Nindroid MechDragon (70725) contains five minifigures: Sensei Garmadon, Evil Wu, Lloyd, and two Nindroids. The MechDragon itself is pretty menacing looking. It’s mostly silver, black, and purple with blade wings and also includes some saws on each of the wings. There is also a small off-road type vehicle that Sensei Garmadon and Lloyd drives. It also includes a brick separator!

LEGO Ninjago 2014 Partial Set Details

Ninjago Rebooted Poster

There’s a discussion going on at Eurobricks of some details of a couple of the 2014 LEGO Ninjago sets. Corydoras on the forums has recounted what they saw on a retailer’s catalog for the NinjaCopter and the Nindroid MechDragon. There are already details of three of the sets that were released early. You can read more about them as well as preview the images here.

NinjaCopter (70724) – Designed somewhat like a set from the Galaxy Squad. It looks similar to the vehicle on the right side in the poster above. Minifigures included are Zane and another character with grey hair. It could be human Garmadon or Misako. – ~$49.99

The minifigure with grey hair is a new character called Pixal. She has robotic features which makes me think that she is Zane’s mother. There are two Nindroids also included.

Nindroid MechDragon (70725) – Mostly black and white with shades of purple. The MechDragon has a brick-built head like many have speculated. There are saw blades on the wings. Includes Lloyd, Sensei Wu in darker colors and his signature straw hat, and at least two Nindroids. – ~$79.99

Sensei Wu is now called Evil Wu which explains the darker colors. Also Sensei Garmadon is in the set.

Hover Hunter (70720)
Kai Fighter (70721) – $19.99
OverBorg Attack (70722) – $19.99
Thunder Raider (70723) – $29.99
Destructoid (70726)

Update: You can see images from a few more sets here. I’ve updated the post with details from the sets.
