The LEGO VIDIYO theme officially launched at the beginning of the month to mixed reactions. From the cryptic teasers and announcement that really didn’t show much of the products to extremely bad reviews of the companion app, it doesn’t bode well for this partnership with Universal Music Group. I purchased the Hiphop Robot BeatBox (43107) just to see how everything works together and offer my opinion whether to purchase it or not. Keep in mind that the BeatBox sets cost $19.99 each.

I chose the Hiphop Robot BeatBox simply because the helmet/hair piece reminded me of Daft Punk and the iconic helmet they wear. The torso has printing that shows some a USB cable wrapped around the neck. The legs have some circuit board printing going down to some microchips. Attached on the back are some extra arms for accessories including a microphone. The head is robotic gray and the most inter sting piece for me is the helmet/hair piece that shows a graphic equalizer.

Each of the BeatBox set comes with a container that has some headphones going around it. The back of it has unique designs to the specific character and this one looks like a boombox or a robotic face. The other designs are a spray can and a wrench. When you pull it out, there are two parts to this area. For those who were able to sign up for the LEGO VIDIYO Welcome Pack last week, LEGO has informed people that it will be slightly delayed. It was supposed to be delivered some time between 5-10 business days but LEGO is experiencing delays with their shipment so it’ll take a little longer to get them delivered. LEGO VIDIYO will be available in a few days with a slew of products that kids can enjoy including a line of mystery characters called Bandmates.

A few days ago, LEGO officially revealed the new LEGO VIDIYO theme but one “set” that wasn’t talked much about were the Bandmates (43101). This set is basically a blind box featuring one of the 12 characters that you are able to collect. Also included are three BeatBits that you scan to unlock effects and sounds in the VIDIYO app, with a total of 92 different BeatBits to collect. Each Bandmates costs $4.99 each and it looks like there’s no way to “feel” out each character unless you buy a sealed box which should contain all of them. Today, Universal Music Group’s Astralwerks label and the LEGO Group teamed up to introduce L.L.A.M.A to the world. He makes his debut with the infectious single “Shake,” which features three-time GRAMMY® winner NE-YO and newcomer Carmen DeLeon, who recently released the hit single “Juegas.” “Shake” is available on the LEGO VIDIYO app and at all DSPs. On Tuesday, LEGO Group teased the single, as news broke of L.L.A.M.A’s historic signing to Astralwerks. The DJ/producer is the first LEGO® minifigure to sign a deal with a record label.

This morning around 7am PST, I alerted you guys about a free LEGO VIDIYO Welcome Pack that you could’ve signed up for through your email. In about seven hours or so, the limited-time offer has now been closed due to high demand. I’m not sure how many Welcome Packs LEGO had but it sure doesn’t seem like a lot especially for a brand new theme they are trying to push. The newsletter for it didn’t even specify that was a limited-time offer. How many of you were able to get one?
