Next up on my reviews of the LEGO Avatar: The Way of Water sets, we check out the Metkayina Reef Home (75578). It has 528 pieces and retails for $79.99.
Minifigures
There are four minifigures in the set, Ronal, Tonowari, Neytiri, and Kiri. Ronal’s torso shows her with a nicely detailed pattern that looks good compared to the on-screen counterpart. The legs show her with a long light brown loincloth. The facial printing also looks great with the shell covering part of her forehead.
Tonowari is the leader of the Metkayina clan and he is shown wearing a harness. His facial printing is highly detailed with all the tattoos. His accoessory is a spear.
Neytiri has an updated look from her previouus versions although she still looks fairly plain. Her torso shows her wearing a feather necklace. Her accessory is a torch.
Lastly, we have Kiri who looks to be wearing some leaves on the torso. The legs have printing of a sand green loincloth and she has a happy expression. Her accessory is a paddle.
Build
99% of the build is for the reef home. It sits on two platforms which are made from mangrove-like tree roots which are represented by the the reddish brown cylinder pieces. These parts in this color look to be exclusive to this set. The base of the roots have colorful plants surrounding it. There are fish that are clipped on to simulate them swimming.
The center of the home has a cooking area with the fire spit being the main attraction. It cooks a fish with a pot adjacent to it above the fire.
The marui pods are covered with the plastic peel off sheets that are somewhat detailed. Two pieces cover the both ends of the reef home and they are attached in a way where it gives it the curvy look.
To the left of the home is another platform which is used for a dock. It sits on top of a cave that has a secret area with a glow in the dark plant inside. There’s a couple more of the swimming fish.
Lastly we have some smaller builds which include a rocky area with some plants and a canoe. The rock has a jumper piece for a minifigure to attach on to simulate it swimming.
Results
Overall the LEGO Avatar Metkayina Reef Home (75578) is a mediocre set at this price point of $79.99. It does look very nice as a completed product but it doesn’t warrant that price. There’s not much playability on it besides the canoe and the ladder climing up to the pods but that’s pretty much it. I have a feeling that the price is higher due to the plastic coverings as well as the larger parts used. If it was cheaper, I would suggest getting a few copies to make a whole village of them.
Thank you to LEGO for sending in this set for me to review. The content above represents my own opinion and not the company. Review sets sent in does not guarantee a positive review.
