LEGO hasn’t released a larger scale Bat-Pod set in a long time but this summer, there is a new one in the Batman Construction Figure and the Bat-Pod Bike (76273). The original one was back in 2015 when there was a competition for LEGO VIP members and subsequently was in the Rewards Center for 15,000 points and a sweepstakes after that. This new 713 piece set is much easier to get for $64.99.
Build
The Batman figure is the larger scale ones that were re-introduced a few years ago, however, this one is based on the suit from The Dark Knight. The build is fairly similar to its predecessor, give or take a few changes here and there.
You do start with the torso which has ball joints for the arms and the head. The armor on the shoulders are on hinges and they attach to the top of the shoulder.
The arms are build similiarly and they have hinges on the elbows and a ball joint for the wrists. The hands have clips for Batman to hold on to the Bat-Pod handles. Like with previous Construction Figures, the hands only have four fingers.
There is some waist swivel right above the utility belt. The legs, knees, and ankles are all on ball joints so there’s a wide variety of movement below the waist although the knees are somewhat limited.
The printing for the face is new and the head has some shorter ears. The whole head is on a ball joint so it enables him to look straight up which is used for when he is riding the Bat-Pod.
The fabric cape is clipped on next to the shoulder armor and is secured using a couple of holed studs.
The Bat-Pod has more of a Technic frame that gives it the foundation. Although there is no suspension system in the set, the axles are flexable enough it give the wheels some bend without breaking apart.
The front of the bike has some gun turrets flanked with some stud shooters on either side.
Behind the turrets are the handlebars along with the arm shields. There are a couple of clips where Batman can “hold” on to the handlebars.
Towards the middle of the bike, there are a couple of knee rests that stick out from the sides.
Finally at the back of the bike by the wheel, there are some foot rests.
The wheels used looks to be similar to the ones used in the Bat-Pod (5004590) although they have a different part number.
Results
Overall the LEGO Batman Construction Figure and the Bat-Pod Bike (76273) is a decent alterative to the highly exclusive one from almost a decade ago. Although the looks are similar, it is more refined with a better weapon system in the front wheels. The curves in the middle of the bike also look a lot better than the slopes the original one had. The Batman figure is the typical character builds that we’ve seen before so there’s nothing too interesting about him except for the updated look. I would think that the Bat-Pod would sell if LEGO released it by itself but I feel the license requires LEGO to have some sort of Batman included with the sets.
Thank you to LEGO for sending in this set for me to review. The content above represents my own opinion and not the company. Review sets sent in does not guarantee a positive review.
