Now that we’ve had time to soak in the announcement of the new LEGO Dimensions with the Starter Packs and the Expansion Packs and seen the LEGO themes that have been revealed so far, let’s take a look at what other themes we could be seeing in the future being included in the video game. We can see from the image above that the top of the box shows lots of minifigures from the Fun, Team, and Level Packs that have already been revealed and even some that haven’t been announced yet. This is purely a speculation post and feel free to comment below on what themes you would like to see to be included in future LEGO Dimensions expansion packs.
Back to the Future
This theme is pretty much confirmed with the Back to the Future Level Pack which includes Marty McFly, the DeLorean Time Machine, and the Hoverboard. Whether or not we’ll be seeing other characters in the future remains to be seen.
BIONICLE
Since LEGO Dimensions is about the minifigures, I’m not so sure that LEGO BIONICLE will fit the concept. They did have some figures during the original run but they weren’t your typical minifigures. The thing that BIONCLE has going for them is that it’s LEGO own IP.
City
Although LEGO City is one of the more popular themes, I don’t see it being a good fit.
DC Comics Super Heroes
DC Comics is already a shoe-in with Batman being in the Starter Packs and other characters already revealed in Fun Packs like Wonder Woman and Cyborg. If you zoom in close on the image above, you can pretty much see that the Joker, Superman, Aquaman will also be added later on. Harley Quinn looks to be next to the Joker as well.
Disney Princess
This is pretty much a no-go since this is direct competition with Disney’s own Infinity line.
Doctor Who
Doctor Who would make a great addition to the game especially since LEGO will be releasing a LEGO Ideas set based on the popular TV show. A Doctor as the minifigure, preferably a different one than in the Ideas set, with the TARDIS as the build would make a great Fun Pack. Thanks to Andrew for the reminder.
Update: Metro has been told unofficially that Doctor Who will indeed be added later on.
Elves
Elves has a strong chance to be added to LEGO Dimensions later on. It’s LEGO’s new original IP so it’s possible that you might see it in the future.
Friends
Along with the Elves, Friends has been a pretty popular theme and we can probably expect to see it added later on.
Ghostbusters
LEGO Ghostbusters has a high possibility of being in a future expansion pack. There was a hint in the announcement video with Joel McHale holding the Psychokinetic Energy (PKE) Meter. Readers have pointed out to me that a couple of characters on the box image looks like a Ghostbuster on the top row as well as Slimer on the bottom right.
Jurassic World
Although we’ll be seeing sets coming out in conjunction with the Jurassic World movie, I doubt we’ll be seeing the theme show up in LEGO Dimensions. However, this might be a chance to introduce more Jurassic Park related products.
Legends of Chima
The theme is set to end after the summer wave but you can kind of see some of the characters on the box like Laval and Cragger. LEGO Dimensions could be the final hurrah for Legends of Chima.
Marvel Super Heroes
Like with Disney Princess, this is pretty much a negative because of Disney Infinity. They are already successful with that line so I don’t see it coming over to LEGO.
Minecraft
I’m not so sure about Minecraft since Microsoft owns it now. I wouldn’t get you hopes up for seeing it for LEGO Dimensions.
Minifigures
There’s a chance that we could see the Collectible Minifigures with LEGO Dimensions but we already have minifigures coming out every year so it might be a little too much but don’t count it out.
Mixels
I’m not too sure about Mixels but it’ll be interesting to see how they fit in with LEGO Dimensions.
Ninjago
This is pretty much a yes with Cole and Kai being in the Ninjago Team Pack and Nya and Zane in the Fun Packs. You can also see Jay on the box and you can expect to see more in the future.
Pirates
It’ll be cool to have Pirates show up in the game but I’m not too sure about this one.
Scooby-Doo
Scooby-Doo is pretty much going to be in LEGO Dimensions. We just need official confirmation for it. The right side of the Starter Pack box shows the Mystery Mansion and you can easily make out Scooby and Shaggy on top of the box.
Speed Champions
I doubt that we’ll be seeing Speed Champions with LEGO Dimensions but the little builds in the expansions packs would work pretty nicely.
Star Wars
This will disappoint many fans but is going to be a big no. The reasoning is because Disney Infinity is rumored to be expanding to Star Wars characters later this year. Plus if there was going to be Star Wars in LEGO Dimensions, wouldn’t we have seen some of the more popular characters in the reveals already?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
I’m going to say no on TMNT because the theme is done and the license has moved on to Mattel.
The Hobbit/The Lord of the Rings
Yes, LOTR is returning again with Legolas, Gimli, and Gollum in the Fun Packs and Gandalf in the Starter Packs. We might be seeing more characters showing up in the future.
The LEGO Movie
Definite yes on The LEGO Movie with Wyldstyle in the Starter Packs and many other characters already revealed in the Fun Packs like Bad Cop, Benny, Emmet, and Unikitty.
The Simpsons
The Simpsons theme will definitely be in LEGO Dimensions as we can clearly see some of the characters on the top of the box like Homer, Bart, and Krusty.
The Wizard of Oz
The Wizard of Oz will make its LEGO debut with Dimensions as we have the Wicked Witch appearing in a Fun Pack. We can probably expect to see more characters in future packs. The box appears to show the Scarecrow and the Tin Man but it’s hard to tell if it’s actually them or not.
Ultra Agents
I’m 50/50 about Ultra Agents but they would make a nice addition to the game. Plus the main villain of the game Lord Vortech looks like a character from the theme.
