In my next review of the March 2022 wave of LEGO Harry Potter sets, I have what I think is the most interesting set from the wave with the Hogwarts Magical Trunk (76399). The set has 603 pieces and retails for $59.99.
Sticker Sheets
There are a lot of stickers that you can plaster on the truck. One sheet is dedicated to just decoration with various crests and details related to the Harry Potter series. They aren’t all unique as there are some duplicates like the Chocolate Frog and the butterbeers.
Minifigures
There are six minifigures in the set, Professor McGonagall, Harry Potter, and four other students. McGonagall has on the black and green robes with some nice circle patterns. Her double-sided head shows her with a smile on one side and an angry expression on the other side.
Harry Potter has on the black robes that we usually see him in. His double-sided head shows a smile on one side and a scared look on the other.
The other four minifigures are generic characters that you can customize. They have colored scarves and mittens that are coordinated to each of the Hogwarts houses of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. There are a number of extra heads and hairpieces that you can mix and match with.
Build
The whole build consists of the trunk and its contents. One thing to note is that this set is fully customizable to your liking down to the color of the chest and what details you want on it. I chosen Gryffindor because that’s what the main instructions go by. I’ve also didn’t apply the stickers because I wanted a clean looking trunk.
The front has three area that have the house colors. In the middle, there is a functioning lock that can keep the contents secure while traveling. The two sides have handles as well as some tiles for you to put the nameplates on.
The trunk opens up on some hinges on both sides. Here you are presented with a large area in which you can recreate various scenes on which include The Sorting Ceremony, The Great Hall Welcoming Fest, and The Common Room.
For each of the scenes, you’ll have to take apart some of the main builds to create alternate builds for that scene. For example, the purple couch is rebuilt into two smaller chairs and a table for a board game.
There are also some smaller accessories like the printed Quibbler tile, Acid Pops, and Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans.
When you’re ready to pack up, everything but the minifigures can be organized into one side and locked up after.
Results
Overall the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Magical Trunk (76399) is actually a fun little set that kids will enjoy. There’s a lot of variety that will give a lot of playability and replayability. I do like that there are a lot of minifigure parts as well. The price point is a little high but I feel that with everything that’s included, it is justified.
Thank you to LEGO for sending in this set for me to review. The content above represents my own opinion and not the company. Review sets sent in does not guarantee a positive review.
