For my second review of the March 2022 wave of LEGO Harry Potter sets, we’ll be taking a look at the Hogwarts Moment: Defence Against the Dark Arts Class (76397). The set has 257 pieces and will retail for $29.99. The contents of the box include two numbered bags, the book covers, a 2×16 plate, the instructions, and a sticker sheet.
Minifigures
The set includes three minifigures which includes Mad-Eye Moody, Hermione Granger, and Neville Longbottom. Moody wears a nougat colored trenchcoat with lots of straps on the torso. The legs show his left leg as being the fake one. His double-sided head shows him with grumpy expressions on one side and the other shows Barty Crouch Jr.’s face. There’s two sets of hairs for each of the characters. His accessories include his cane and a bottle of polyjuice potion.
Hermione has on a closed robe and her double-sided face shows her with a happy expression on one side and a stern look on the other.
Neville’s robe is open and it shows his inside gray sweater. His double-sided face shows his front teeth and a happy expression on one side and a scared one on the other.
Build
The cover of the book is all black with some flame-orange curved tiles to give some contrast. The back cover has some slots to connect to other books.
The left side of the book has a bunch of mirrors and potions. The background sticker also shows more different mirrors. The right cover has a bunch of potions as the background.
The spine of the book is slightly different from other books as there’s a section that opens out. There’s a fireplace at the bottom and towards the back are some decorative stickers including the Amblypygid spider that Moody kills with the killing curse. There’s also other stickers that shows some more potions and equipment used in the class.
There are some additional separate accessories that are in the set like the blackboard that Moody uses when he first starts the class. There’s also some benches, a table, a book showing the Dark Mark, and even Moody’s magical trunk. Lastly there’s a physical Amblypygid spider. The accessories are able to be combined into the set to easy portability.
Results
Overall, the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Moment: Defence Against the Dark Arts Class (76397) is a decent set with lots of items that come straight from the movie. There are quite a few stickers that may take away from the set but they work well by giving additional detailing. I do also like the Moody minifigure that can also be Barty Crouch Jr.
Like I’ve said before, the price point of these Hogwarts Moments sets are a bit too high and I feel that lowering it $5 would have been better.
Thank you to LEGO for sending in this set for me to review. The content above represents my own opinion and not the company. Review sets sent in does not guarantee a positive review.
