We’ve just recently received our review copy of the now out-of-stock LEGO Ideas Ray the Castaway (40566) gift with purchase set. The build was part of a LEGO Ideas Seaside building contest back in 2021. The 239 piece set was available at the beginning of October 2022 with purchases of $120.
Ray seems to be castaway for a while given his full bearded look. He does have a blue and white striped shirt with a pristine pair of red shorts. His accessory is a telescope.
The island seems to be very vibrant with lush vegetation as seen with the palm trees and the flowers.
The left side has a perch for a parrot along with a drying fish.
The right side of the island has a little hut that Ray has constructed covered with some dead palm tree leaves. To the side of the hut is a fishing area along with a spot to tie up the makeshift raft.
Underneath the hut is a hidden area with a treasure chest filled with gems.
The beach area of the island has a SOS spelled out with a couple of snakes and a lifebuoy.
Overall, the LEGO Ideas Ray the Castaway (40566) set is probably one of the best looking promotional sets in 2022. The build is actually faithful to the original contest submission by DadiTwins. As of this review, the set is out of stock on the LEGO Shop and it’s not surprising since the Double VIP Points is concurrently going. You can probably find it still fairly cheap on the secondary market as it is still hovering around $35-$35 shipped.
Thank you to LEGO for sending in this set for me to review. The content above represents my own opinion and not the company. Review sets sent in does not guarantee a positive review.
