LEGO has been making Marvel mechs for a little bit now and the latest lineup is the War Machine Mech Armor (76277). The set has 154 pieces and retails for a reasonable $14.99.
Minifigure
The only minifigure here is War Machine. This version of the suit uses more of a light gray color scheme for some contrast on the usual dark gray. There’s also some red on the middle of the chest as well as for the eyes. The faceplate is able to open up to reveal James Rhodes’ smirking face. He does come with a separate hair piece if you want to take the whole helmet off.
Build
The only part of the build is the mech itself which is basically a larger version of War Machine. The minifigure sits in the cockpit where the chest opens outwards with just enough space to fit him in. The chest has a printed 2×2 tile of the red arc reactor similar to what the minifigure has.
The arms and upper torso are where all the play features are at. There’s some shoulder cannons that flank the minifigure but they look kind of wimpy compared to the other weapons he has.
The left hand has articulated fingers as well as a stud shooter mounted on the wrist. The palm of the hand has a translucent-red round tiles for the repulsors.
The right arm has a lot more detail than the left. The hand weapons are the same but there’s an additional shoulder-mounted stud shooter. There’s also a hose that goes from the shoulder to the back of the waist.
Speaking of the back, War Machine also has a backpack clipped on that holds extra stud ammunition.
Both arms are on ball joints and the hose does not hinder any movement on the arm. The waist uses a pin and that gives it some waist swivel and again, does not limit too much much movement.
The legs are also on ball joints as well as the feet but the knees do not get any movement. As a result, it has this static pose that somewhat limits what poses he can have but you can still get some decent poses out of him.
Results
Overall, the LEGO Marvel War Machine Mech Armor (76277) is a good looking set that’s fitting for the character. The bulkiness of it plus the amount of play weapons is what makes it worth the price point. The only downside is that there’s is limited poseability due to the knees not having any moveable joints.
