For our first review of the new wave of LEGO Monkie Kid sets, we have the Monkie Kid’s Cloud Bike (80018). It has 203 pieces and will go for $24.99.
Minifigures
The set has minifigures, Monkie Kid, Spindrax, and Rui. Monkie kid has on a slightly different outfit than in the first wave of MK sets. The jacket is still orange but the front shows the Monkey King’s smiling face on the front while the back has the “sky” symbol. The legs are dual-molded with his black sneakers. He has a double-sided head with a smile on one side and an angry expression on the other. Instead of goggles, Monkie Kid has a teal hoodie piece that goes around his neck. His accessory is the Golden Staff.
Spindrax has on a purple and black outfit with some green accents on the front and back of the torso. There’s also a purple armor piece that goes around the neck. The legs are also purple with some spider printing on the knees. Her spider head is double-sided with a smile on one side and an angry look on the other. She can either have a normal hairpiece or helmet with a spider decal and her accessory is a sword.
Rui seems to be a new character in the show and she wears a pink striped shirt with printing of some necklaces. The legs are plain blue. She has a double-sided head with smiling and scared expressions. She has a translucent neck bracket to use with the mechnical spider but this isn’t expressed in the instructions but on the back of the box. Her accessory is a printed 1×2 cell phone tile.
Build
The first part of the build is for the mechanical spider that latches on to Rui. It uses a gray parabolic ring for the base and has six legs attached to it. The head is basically a trans-red stud on a clip and the tail has a printed 1×1 round tile of a spider on a trans-neon green 1×1 round brick.
Spindrax’s bike is a simple Technic style bike that we’re used to seeing. The front has a sticker showing some spider eyes and the spider logo at the bottom. The sides are also detailed with some spider legs and webbing. There are also a couple of stud shooters on either side.
Lastly, we have the Cloud Bike which is in a similar style with Spindrax’s bike. The difference here is that the wheels are able to swivel out to have it flying. In the middle of the bike, there’s a dual disc shooter which you can activate by turning the Technic beam on the back of the bike.
Results
Overall, the Monkie Kid’s Cloud Bike (80018) is a decent set for being the smallest set in the Spring 2021 wave. Spindrax is exclusive to this set I do like the look of him especially his helmet. Rui and the mechanical spider seems to be a throw-in since they don’t really fit in the overall concept of the set but that’s okay.
Thank you to LEGO for sending in this set for me to review. The content above represents my own opinion and not the company. Review sets sent in does not guarantee a positive review.
