The LEGO Newsstand Building Event was held at LEGO Brand Stores yesterday and I was able to attend my store to build it and take home. I was also allowed to take the building instructions with me so I can scan it and share with you guys who weren’t able to attend. As far as parts are concerned, I believe the 1×6 sand blue plates are exclusive. There were sand blue plates released before but they were last used in 2003. Some of the other sand blue pieces used were only in the LEGO Stranger Things The Upside Down (75810) and LEGO Hidden Side Shrimp Shack Attack (70422). As for the purpose of the build, my store didn’t have the 1×6 plates and they substituted dark gray ones for them which was a bummer. I’m not sure if other stores had the same issue or not.
The build itself is pretty cool and it complements the new LEGO Creator Bookshop (10270) very well. I will say the instructions could have been better. Steps 3 and 4 as well as 9 and 10 could have been separated by each shelf. The shelves are very flimsy and it would have been better to put the items for each shelf instead of building the shelves first then putting all the items on. All in all, getting this 155 piece set for free was awesome since it would have probably cost $10-15 if LEGO sold it by itself. Below are the building instructions for the set which you save.
