A few days ago, we got our first look at the summer 2021 LEGO Ninjago sets and set designer Niek van Slagmaat has chimed in on the behind the scenes development of one of the sets. With the very positive response to this wave, Niek gives an in-depth look at the Hydro Bounty (71756) which is pretty rare since LEGO doesn’t really release development photos.
Not only does the Hydro Bounty a submarine, it also has a mech integrated into it as well which we really can see from the official set images that came out the other day. What’s funny enough is that Niel actually designed the set from home during the pandemic. You can read more about the Hydro Bounty in the Niek’s Twitter thread.
There was an older sketch model by Theo Bonner, that explored the aesthetic and concept. I took it from here and was tasked to make it into a submarine version of the Bounty, then named the Sword of the Sea. I did some sketches to start off with to explore the shape and features. pic.twitter.com/HQZk2hiEc9
