A few days ago, we got our first look at the new LEGO Seasonal Trick or Treat (40122) set. The set is officially available on September 1st but some LEGO Stores have started receiving their shipments of it. I’ve managed to purchase a set and here’s my review of it.
The Trick or Treat set contains 133 pieces and retails for $9.99 like previous Seasonal sets. The contents of the box include three un-numbered bags, a small instruction booklet, and two loose dark green 4×8 plates.
Minifigures
There are two minifigures in the set, the girl trick-or-treater and a skeleton. The girl is dressed in a white sparkly blouse with blue legs. The head is a normal one with freckles and she wears a black witch hat. Her accessories include a broom and a pail. When images of the set came out, there were many comments about the outfit used for the girl because she’s not really dressed up for Halloween.
The other minifigure in the set a skeleton. There’s nothing too special about it.
Build
The build consists of the front of a house and a small tree. The house isn’t any spectacular and it uses a lot of black parts to create a spooky look for it. I’m not sure why there are white pieces used for the side of the house but it doesn’t look that good. The redeeming aspect of it are the transparent pieces for the stained glass window look. The porch and front yard has a couple of pumpkins but there are no faces on them so technically, they’re not Jack O’Lanterns. There’s also what appears to be a grave decoration in the front yard.
Results
Overall, LEGO has done a great job so far with this year’s Seasonal sets with the Valentine’s Day Dinner (40120) and the Painting Easter Egss (40121) sets but I feel they took a step backwards with the Trick or Treat (40122) set. The setting is pretty plain and the minifigures are subpar, especially the girl trick-or-treater.
Again, the set will be officially available on September 1st at LEGO Stores and on Shop@Home although some stores have already started selling them. If you’re a fan of the LEGO Seasonal exclusive sets, I recommend checking if your store has them yet or not because these sets usually sell out pretty fast.
