One of the new LEGO Star Wars sets that was just released to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi was the Emperor’s Throne Room (75352). It has 807 pieces and retails for $99.99.
Minifigures
There are three minifigures in the set Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Emperor Palpatine. Luke is in his black outfit that has some metallic silver on the belt which is new for 2023. The right hand has the black glove for his artificial hand. He has a double-sided head showing a smile on one side and a stern look on the other. The tan side swept hair is actually exclusive to this set. His accessory is his green lightsaber.
Darth Vader uses the same torso that was introduced a few year ago. The helmet uses the separate piece on the botton which is still rather new. The white head decoration is also brand new for this year. His accessory is the red lightsaber.
This version of Emperor Palpatine is exclusive to this set. The torso and legs have subtle lines going down it. His double-sided head shows him with a stern look on one side annd an angry expression on the other. His accessories are some lightning bolts that are a part of the build.
Build
The first part of the build is the framing structure for the throne room. It’s hard to see what’s happening until the end of bag two where we get the back platform along with some of the stairs.
Bag 3 gives you the parts for the frame of the circular window area in the back. LEGO did a decent job in getting the round shape design. There are some flex tubes to attach the glass pieces in the next set of bags.
For the window pieces, they clip around the the two hoses in the back and they actually hold on very well. The only bad thing is that you have to build multiples of the various windows.
There is also a front plate for the area and it slides in the little slot and attaches only only in the middle. This provides some visual depth to the window.
The final bag gives you a large printed window piece for the back. Again, it doesn’t really clip to anything but is held in place by various clips.
You also have Palpatine’s purple chair that is able to spin a full 360 degrees.
The front of the diorama has a couple of raised pod things.
The floor area is able to pop out to put the electricity pieces on the clips. Here you can recreate Palpatine’s supposed “death” at the end of the movie.
Lastly, you have the printed brick for the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi as well as a tile for Luke’s quote, “I am a Jedi, like my father before me.”
Results
Overall, the LEGO Star Wars Emperor’s Throne Room (75352) is a very well made set and depicts one of the most iconic scenes from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, however, the thing that holds it back is the price. You do get to recreate a few scenes using the three included minifigures and it doesn’t look bad at all. The window area is constructed well but that front frame is sketchy with it only being attached at the front. All in all, a nice display piece but try to get it on sale.
