Continuing with my review of the LEGO Super Mario sets, we take a look at the Creativity Toolbox Maker Set (71418) which 588 pieces and retails for $59.99.
The whole set is basically a very large accessory pack for the LEGO Super Mario sets, mainly the Starter courses. There are a few characters in this set which includes Blue Yoshi, Goomba, and a Super Mushroom. There seems to be some controversy about he color of Yoshi’s blue cheeks. The Yoshis in other sets have white round tiles while this one has tiles similar to its skin color.
The Goomba looks to be exclusive to this set with its facial printing but the Super Mushroom appears to be the same one as before.
We also have Wendy who is another one of Bowser’s Koopalings. Her body is mostly yellow and she has a pink shell, bow, and shoes. She does have printed pieces for her face and front of her body. Her accessory is her wand.
Wendy sits on top of a castle expansion area where she is flanked by fire pots and flames on both sides.
The grassy areas have the most expansion to it with three different sections that the instructions provide but there are enough parts left over to add three more. These areas have different colored hills as well as clouds in the background. The foreground has some flowers and small mushrooms as well as printed directional signs.
One small grassy section has the Koopa checkpoint flag with a barcode.
The last sections are for the desert lands which have some pyramid backgrounds and cacti as well as some palm trees. One of the desert sections also has Stone-Eye. This Stone-Eye is smaller than the one from the Monty Mole & Super Mushroom (40414).
There are also a lot of extra pieces left over to make the layouts longer if you want.
Even though all the LEGO Super Mario sets are expansion sets, the Creativity Toolbox Maker Set (71418) is an additional accessory set that allows builders to put even more details to their layouts. The price is fairly reasonable for what you get, especially with some of the exclusive characters in the set. I do like the look of the sections but more effort could’ve been put on the lava ones as there isn’t too much there compared to the other biomes like the grassy one.
Thank you to LEGO for sending in this set for me to review. The content above represents my own opinion and not the company. Review sets sent in does not guarantee a positive review.
