LEGO has been testing the waters with up-scaled minifigures in recent years like with the LEGO Wooden Minifigure (853967), Harry Potter & Hermione Granger (76393), and more recently, the LEGO House A Minifigure Tribute (40504). The latest addition to the lineup is the Up-Scaled LEGO Minifigure (40649). It has 654 pieces and retails for $49.99.
Minifigure
There is a generic minifigure that has a red torso and blue legs which is what the up-scaled version of it is based on.
Build
The build is very straight-forward with the number of bags corresponding to the area of the minifigure. The first part is for the torso. Like with Redbeard, there’s an interesting section here for the arms to put them at an angle. The rest of the parts are for the start of the legs.
The legs are pretty plain and the interior of them has spots to connect the Technic axles to. Both legs are able to swivel independently so you can do walking poses with them.
Both arms are built similiarly and they connect to the exposed axle on the side of the torso. The hands are able to spin freely.
For the head, there’s a SNOT technique going on here and everything is covered up at the end using the curved panels. The one for the face is a printed piece so you don’t have to worry about it having a crooked face. It can spin a full 360 degress as it is on a turntable.
The cap is probably my favorite part of the build. Under the dome, there’s a control area for the little minifigure where there are controls which make it seem that it is controlling the larger one.
Results
Overall the LEGO Up-Scaled LEGO Minifigure (40649) is a very unique and fun build. The details on it are minimal but the interesting things are the ones that are used to build it like the torso area. The cap could’ve been just a regular cap with nothing inside but the controls makes it more comical.
