LEGO Store Fashion Valley Named Brand Retail Store of the Year 2013

LEGO Brand Retail Store of the Year 2013 (Fashion Valley, San Diego)

I’ve just gotten news that my local LEGO Store in Fashion Valley (San Diego, CA) has won the LEGO Brand Retail Store of the Year for 2013! LEGO takes in many factors to choose the winner and the surveys we fill out after our purchases do factor into account. It isn’t a surprise that the Fashion Valley store won because the staff there is simply awesome from all the Brick Specialists and to Mike the Store Manager. I hang out there a lot (more often than I should) and I’ve seen first-hand of how the employees take care of their customers from answering questions customers may have to a simple thing like the check out process. If you have a chance to go to this store in Fashion Valley, show your support by congratulating the staff there. They do great work and they truly deserve the award!

Bricks by the Bay is Back For the Fifth Straight Year

It is never too early to talk about LEGO conventions that are upcoming later in the year. Bricks by the Bay is back again this year for their fifth straight year and will be held on August 7-10, 2014. There are some new things happening at the event. One is the increased floor space. There is now over 33,000 square feet of LEGO goodness. There will now be two ballroom spaces for AFOLs and LEGO fans to show off their creations. There is also an extra day for attendees to participate in different events held at the convention. There will be more details of the convention as we get closer to the date. Read more about Bricks by the Bay 2014 in their press release below:

The Brick Fan Turn 2 Years Old

Today marks the second year that The Brick Fan has been online. What started out two years as a just a simple hobby has turned into a somewhat of a part-time job for me. Last year, I made a goal to double the traffic that the site had and that was accomplished, more than what I expected. I’m not going to post any stats because they are similar to the ones in last year’s recap and I don’t want to repeat what’s been said already.

First and foremost, thank you to all the readers. This may sound cliche but without you guys, this site would be absolutely nothing. I never imagined that a tiny site like this would have such a following. It may be a small following but I appreciate everyone just taking a little bit of your time and reading what I have put out. All of your positive comments and feedback are what motivates me to keep this site going. I don’t have any plans to stop so let’s see how long we can keep this going.

I also want to thank all the people in the LEGO community that I’ve met or been in contact with last year. I’ve made a lot of new friends and acquaintances and hope to connect with more people this year. To the staff at the Fashion Valley LEGO Store, thanks for letting me hang out there with you guys during my downtime. It’s been cool interacting with everyone there and seeing how the store is … Continue

Happy Chinese New Year Video From The LEGO Movie

Today, Warner Bros UK has released a short video of Emmet from The LEGO Movie wishing everyone a Happy Chinese New Year. For 2014, Chinese New Year happens on January 31 and it will be the Year of the Horse although Emmet isn’t quite sure what year of the zodiac it will be. Chinese New Year is not just one day, but fifteen full days of festivities. As a Chinese-American, it’s pretty cool to see LEGO and Warner Bros. acknowledging the significance of the event and our culture. The movie premieres exactly one week after New Years and the companies are doing everything they can to promote it. 恭喜发财 everyone!

LEGO Minifigure Year By Year: A Visual History Book Review

Dorling Kindersley’s newest LEGO book has been released and it is called LEGO Minifigure Year By Year: A Visual History. The hardcover book features more than 2,000 images of various minifigures through LEGO’s history. The book also includes three different minifigures which is unique because we usually just get one in a DK LEGO book. It retails for $24.00 on Amazon and has 256 pages. If you want to do a cost per page ratio, it is $0.09/page. The book is written by Gregory Farshtey and Daniel Lipkowitz, author of many other great LEGO books.

LEGO Ends Two-Year Promotional Partnership with The Sun

In some major news across the pond, LEGO announced today they have ended their two-year promotional partnership with The Sun. This comes after a parent took his anti-Page 3 campaign to LEGOLAND and Wapping. However, LEGO denies that ending the partnership was not linked to the online petition but the partnership naturally ended on it’s own.

Fiona Wright, Lego’s vice president and general manager in the UK and Ireland, told one anti-Page 3 supporter: “The recent promotion in the Sun was part of a two-year agreement which started in 2011 as part of our marketing strategy. This is our final promotion with the Sun.”

The Guardian notes that:

The Sun said the partnership officially ended in November 2012, and that the recent “Lucky Dip” promotion used stock from the previous agreement.

There’s no word as of now on how LEGO will handle their polybag promotions.
