Last Day for LEGO Double VIP Points Event – June 2022

Today is the last day to get your order in for the LEGO Double VIP Points shopping event on the LEGO Shop. This will most likely be the time that you can earn double points for a few months. What’s nice about this time is that it also works on pre-orders including items revealed during LEGO Con 2022 like the LEGO Icons Galaxy Explorer (10497) and LEGO Avatar Toruk Makto & Tree of Souls (75574). There are also a lot of sets that are still available like the LEGO Transformers Optimus Prime (10302) which is one of my favorite sets in 2022.

Again if you didn’t hear it yet, there will be a price increase on various LEGO sets starting in August and September so now is the best time to get anything on your wishlist to take advantage of double points and with the current price. Unfortunately, I do not know which sets will get the price bump but there are lists floating around online that you can reference however I can’t confirm that they will get it.

LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Round 2 Official Set Images

There are now official images of the sets from Round 2 of the BrickLink Designer Program coming out of the LEGO Building Instructions app. These were the five sets that reached the 3,000 minimum number of pre-orders and it only took about five hours after it went live back in November. The release date lists them as a 2022 set but we’ll see if they keep it. These sets command a high premium on the secondary market if you weren’t able to get during the pre-order window.

Protecting the LEGO Minifigure Trademark

LEGO minifigures are a way for fans to identify themselves physically and digitally and they are known as SigFigs. Some of them are customized to the point where there are 3rd party logos printed on it and sometimes companies also use them to put their names and trademarks on it. Today, LEGO has cracked down this practice to protect their minifigure branding by releasing a statement on what you can and cannot do to a minifigure. This means you can’t print any “3rd party logos, names of organizations, and trademarks onto LEGO MInifigures” and you can’t use, order, distribute, or sell minifigures with them. SigFigs looks to be fine as long as there is no 3rd party printing on it, aka your social media/YouTube channels.

I know that LUGs and 3rd party custom minifigure creators will be affected by this ruling. Some LUGs do use their logo on minifigures to identify themselves and to pass them out to visitors. The custom printing companies will also have to shift their focus as well since companies do like to request their company logos on minifigs for company gatherings and events. I’m not sure how it will be supported legally, whether you get a cease and desist letters or if you’re a LUG, get removed from the Ambassador Network for violations.

The good thing is that custom printing on regular LEGO bricks is still allowed so there’s still ways for LUGs and companies to promote their organizations.
