LEGO Marvel Shang-Chi and The Great Protector (30454) Review

LEGO Marvel Shang-Chi and The Great Protector (30454)

Earlier this month, LEGO launched the promotion for the LEGO Marvel Shang-Chi and The Great Protector (30454) polybag and in less than a day, the promo ran out of stock on the LEGO Shop. I finally got my order in the mail and here’s a quick look at the polybag.

The Shang-Chi minifigure is same one as in the other two sets in the wave which includes the Escape from The Ten Rings (76176) and Battle at the Ancient Village (76177). He wears a red outfit with black accents on both sides of the torso while the legs are plain black. Some arm printing would’ve been nice but it’s pretty accurate to the on-screen version. He has a pearl-gold staff as an accessory. Surprisingly, he doesn’t have any rings included.

He does have a double-sided head but it’s the usual expressions we’ve seen before with the stern and angry expressions. Also the flesh tone is different from previous minifigures that featured Asian actors. Previously, LEGO used nougat colored parts for Asian characters. LEGO has released a statement about this:

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us on this matter. Representation in toys is very important and we know the big impact that play has on children. Children are our heroes and we want them to feel both represented and empowered. We are actively looking at ways where we can better represent everyone in our minifigure designs.

In working on representation we are not alone, we work closely with our IP partners to find the

LEGO Build & Talk Adventures Focuses on Online Safety and Privacy

LEGO has launched a new story-style adventure to help families talk about online safety and privacy. Their Build & Talk series helps parents give conversation with kids about online topics and this latest one focuses on online privacy and safe sharing.

The LEGO Group launches new story-style adventure to help families talk about online safety and privacy.

The LEGO Group has expanded its range of tools designed to help families have conversations about digital safety, privacy and wellbeing, after new research found only 1 in 6 parents said their child had confided in them when something bad happened online (1).

The LEGO Group’s ‘Build & Talk’ series helps parents and caregivers have meaningful conversations around challenging yet important online topics with children, aged seven to 11, in a language all children can understand, play. The latest activity pack focuses on two of the biggest concerns for parents when it comes to keeping their children safe online: privacy and safe sharing (2).

In the new story-style adventure, digital explorer and ‘creaturologist’ Ida Switchditonandoff, takes families on a journey through the online world in search of an imaginary LEGO® creature who loves to share. As parents read out the story, children are inspired to have fun building their own ‘Oversharer’ with LEGO bricks. Parents can then use a number of simple talking points to start a conversation with their child about topics such as what makes a good password and how to keep personal data secure.

Kathrine Kirk Muff, VP of Social Responsibility at the LEGO Group, said:

LEGO Ideas/Chronicle Books Puzzle Fan Vote Extended Due to Plagiarism

A few days ago, LEGO Ideas announced that they have extended the deadline for the fan vote on Chronicle Books puzzle competition. This is due to one of the submissions being disqualified due to plagiarism which was The Deer in the Nature category by Les Briques de Loïc. It was ruled that the creation was not entirely the creator’s own work. Fans have tracked down the original work by Grantmasters and although there are differences to them, you can also see the similarities between the two.

The fan vote has been extended to Tuesday, August 24 at 11am CET and people who voted for The Deer will get another vote for the remaining 39 projects. The winners of the competition will be announced no later than September 8.
