LEGO Seasonal Year of the Dog (40235) Available in February in the US

LEGO Seasonal Year of the Dog (40235)

I have the February 2018 LEGO Store Calendar and one of the main promotions for the month is the LEGO Seasonal Year of the Dog (40235) set. Apparently for this year, it is not an Asian country exclusive as we will be able to get it from February 16-28 with a purchase of $88 or more, while supplies last. The Dog joins a number of previous animals that have been released that are from the Chinese zodiac.

Coincidentally, February 16 is Lunar New Year so it’s nice to see that LEGO has also decided to celebrate the event with this set here in the US. As for the purchase price of $88, the number 88 symbolizes fortune and good luck in Chinese culture. I am very looking forward to the LEGO Year of the Dog set as I am born on this zodiac animal and don’t have to resort to the secondary market to get a copy of it.

As a yearly tradition in Asian countries, LEGO releases a set to celebrate the Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year. On February 16, the calendar rolls over to the new year and it’ll be the Year of the Dog in which there will be a set (40235) based on it.

As someone who was born on the Year of the Dog on the Chinese zodiac, I’ll definitely be wanting to pick up this set. If anyone wants to help me out in getting this set, let me know.

LEGO Year of the Rooster 2017 Set Revealed

Here’s something cool for the readers who follow the lunar calendar. 2017 will be the Year of the Rooster according to a Weixin post, a LEGO Year of the Rooster set will be given away to those who were born in those particular years (1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017) via a voucher at the Shanghai LEGO Store from January 13-22. For those in other parts of the world who want one, it’s most likely you won’t find it available unless you purchase it off the secondary market.

LEGO continues to please the Asian market with these sets based on the years of the Chinese zodiac. In 2013, the Year of the Snake (10250) was released. In 2015, fans had the Year of the Sheep (40148) while this year had the Year of the Monkey (40207). Now I just have to wait until 2018 for my Year of the Dog set, if there is one.

LEGO Creator Year of the Monkey (40207)

LEGO Year of the Monkey (40207)

Lunar New Year 2016, aka Chinese New Year, is now less than one month away and people, including me, have already started preparing for the occasion. For 2016, the Chinese zodiac lands on the Year of the Monkey so for those who were born in the years 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, and 2016, this is your year to shine.

For the past couple of years, LEGO has released small Creator sets celebrating the Lunar New Year with sets that are only available in Asian countries and they have continued that this year with the Year of the Monkey (40207) set. This set has 165 pieces and is currently available at Toys R Us Hong Kong as part of their promotion.

For people in other parts of the world, it’s almost impossible to get one of these sets unless you have connections or you just buy it off the secondary market. Fortunately, LEGO has provided the building instructions for you to create your own if you have the parts. I hope LEGO continues these kinds of builds for at least two more years for the the Year of the Dog because I’ll be very interested in that one.

LEGO Year of the Sheep (40148)

LEGO Year of the Sheep (40148)

According to the Lunar Calendar, February 19, 2015 will begin the Year of the Sheep on the Chinese zodiac and to commemorate this event, LEGO will again be releasing a set based on the holiday. The 2015 Year of the Sheep (40148) will include the pieces to create a sheep and is also packaged inside a small red envelope which you can use to give money to others as part of the Chinese tradition.

LEGO did something similiar back in 2013 with the Year of the Snake (10250) but it wasn’t available outside of Asia. It may seem that next year’s set will follow the same pattern.

LEGO Creator Year of the Snake (10250) Confirmed

LEGO Creator Year of the Snake (10250)

It has been revealed that there will be a new Creator set in 2013, the Year of the Snake (10250). On the Lunar Calendar, 2013 is the snake year for the Chinese zodiac, which starts on February 10. This set is probably exclusive to China but that is not confirmed as of this writing. As a Chinese person, I want to get my hands on one of these sets but may have to pay a pretty premium for it. You can download the instructions for the build here.
