LEGO Minifigure Factory Review

LEGO Minifigure Factory

Last week, LEGO announced that the LEGO Minifigure Factory has returned to the LEGO Shop after launching the beta for it a few years back. Here you can personalize your own LEGO character, sigfig if you will, for a price of $11.99 per minifigure. LEGO recently gave us an opportunity to check out the new additions to the system including more heads, bodies, and accessories.

During the process of making your character, you can choose from a wide combination of head, headwear, torso, legs, and accessories. The torso has more details that you can choose from such as the clothing, decorations, and text. For the clothing, you can pick from solid, plain, patterns, or outfits. The outfits have more stylized options that you can choose from. You are able to design the torso on the back as well with the same options.

One thing I noticed when designing the back of my minifigure is that the coloring on the physical minifigure is a little darker than what you see on screen. As you can see below, I personalized the back of the torso and it seems fine on screen but when I look at it in hand, you can barely see the letters. I had to super zoom in on the minifigure to try to make out the words. I would suggest if you’re using a darker torso color, use bright letter. You can also see some issues with the pad printing with the minor scratches.

LEGO Caught Using AI Generated Content – Releases Statement

We all can agree that the use of artificial intelligence is a controversial subject and LEGO recently has been caught using AI images on their site. Over on the now taken down LEGO Ninjago character quiz, there were plenty of AI images of the characters, some of which were very badly made. You can see that on the hands on some of them.

LEGO has released an official statement about this issue. On one hand, they have a policy of not using AI generated content but they also state that AI “offers interesting opportunities” so I’m not really sure if they’re really against it or not.

We have a clear policy not to use generative AI to create LEGO® content. We fundamentally believe in the wonder and power of human creativity and will continue to encourage and celebrate the talented artists who help bring our brand and characters to life.

These images were used in a test which happened outside of our usual approval processes, and we will take all necessary steps to ensure that it won’t happen again.

We believe generative AI offers interesting opportunities and we will continue to explore how we can use it to improve the experiences we offer and our ways of working.
