The 2020 Toy of the Year awards were handed out this evening in New York and a few LEGO products were nominated for some awards including Construction Toy of the Year, Specialty Toy of the Year, and STEM/STEAM Toy of the Year. I’m happy to report that LEGO has sweeped all of those awards with the following products:

Construction Toy of the Year – LEGO City Space Deep Space Rocket and Launch Control (60228)

Specialty Toy of the Year – LEGO Stranger Things The Upside Down (75810)

STEM/STEAM Toy of the Year – LEGO Boost Droid Commander (75253)

The Brick Fan Turns 8 Years Old

I was working on a future LEGO project and I suddenly realized that The Brick Fan turns eight years old today. It’s been a long road going from just another site on the internet to a Recognized LEGO Fan Media site. All of that wouldn’t happen if it wasn’t for you readers who frequent the site, whether be for one random post or if you’re a regular who visits every day.

I’ll still continue doing what I’ve been doing since I started this thing and that is to bring you LEGO news articles along with reviews and maybe throw in some editorials. Last year, we hit the most traffic we’ve had on the site so hopefully that trend continues this year.

Again, thank you everyone for visiting and for being a brick fan yourself.

LEGO Lunar New Year Dragon (40395) Building Instructions

The LEGO Lunar New Year Dragon (40395) building event at LEGO Stores will be happening on January 23 but LEGO has already provided the building instructions for you to download. Signups for the event started earlier this week but you can try to see if there are any spots left and it is intended for kids ages 6-14.

As for the build itself, there aren’t any exclusive parts but the 1x1x2/3 bow plate is still fairly new as it was only introduced last year.

LEGO Celebrates 10 Years of Winter Village Subtheme

This year, LEGO celebrates a decade of the LEGO Winter Village subtheme. Little did they know that this traditional subtheme of the Creator line would be that popular among fans. In 2009, LEGO released the Winter Village Toy Shop (10199) which was a pretty simple build with not that much details inside the shop. Fast forward ten years and the latest offering this year is the Gingerbread House (10267) that is packed with little details. Which set from the LEGO Winter Village subtheme is your favorite?

LEGO Nominated for 2020 Toy of the Year Awards

Earlier today, the 2020 Toy of the Year finalists were announced and as usual, LEGO was nominated in several categories. The nominees and categories are less than previous years so there’s a lesser chance that LEGO doesn’t win anything next year but that’s where your help comes in. You can now vote for your favorite nominees and the winners will be announced ahead of the 2020 New York Toy Fair in February. When you vote, you’ll be entered into a raffle win all the toys in a particular category so there is an incentive to submit your votes.

LEGO 2020 Chinese New Year Sets Designer Video

Earlier today in the middle of the night, LEGO announced two new LEGO sets to celebrate the 2020 Chinese New Year with the Lion Dance (80104) and the Chinese New Year Temple Fair (80105) and in the press kit, we’ve also got the designer video for both of the sets. LEGO Product Designer Markus Rollbühler talks about some of the details that went into both sets. The two sets will be available in China and Asia Pacific markets on December 26 while the rest of the world gets them on January 10. Check out the designer video below.

LEGO Officially Announces Two New Chinese New Year 2020 Sets

LEGO has officially announced two brand new LEGO Seasonal sets to celebrate the 2020 Chinese New Year with the Lion Dance (80104) and the Chinese New Year Temple Fair (80105). Both sets will be available in China and Asia Pacific markets starting on December 26, 2019 and the rest of the world on January 10, 2020.

The details on the sets such as piece counts are still unavailable but we do know one set is $79.99 according to the press kit but not sure which set that goes to. I’m going to assume it is for the Temple Fair since the Lion Dance looks fairly small. Check out the press release and the official images of both of the sets below.

Update: We’ve finally got some pricing and piece counts for the set. The Lion Dance is $79.99 for 882 pieces while the Chinese New Year Temple Fair is $119.99 with 1664 pieces.

Celebrate the Chinese New Year with LEGO® Lion Dance and Traditional Temple Fair

Billund, 05 November 2019: Today, the LEGO Group revealed its 2020 Chinese New Year sets – Lion Dance and Chinese New Year Temple Fair. The launch follows on from this year’s popular sets: Dragon Boat Race, Dragon Dance and Chinese New Year’s Eve Dinner, the first LEGO® products created to mark the festivities.

The Lion Dance set vividly reproduces a well-loved scene of the Spring Festival and is sure to evoke fond memories of the traditional festival. The set features 5 beautifully decorated small lion figurines and a percussionists’
