LEGO Wins Four Toy of the Year 2019 Awards

Back in November of last year, the nominees for the 2019 Toy of the Year awards were announced and LEGO was nominated for a few categories. The awards show was yesterday and I’m happy to report that LEGO has won in four of the seven categories they were in. It seemed that many of the voters enjoyed the return of the LEGO Harry Potter line as the theme took home three awards. Another great for LEGO and it looks like they’re already making a run for next year’s awards with the newly announced LEGO Hidden Side theme.

Celebrating half a century of big building fun with LEGO®DUPLO®

BILLUND, January 29, 2019:Today we mark 50 years since theLEGO Group unveiled its inaugural large brick for small hands (yes that would be 1969) – the same year the first person set foot on the moon. You can decide which was the bigger moment for mankind (although could Apollo 11 be dismantled and rebuilt into a racing car?) but, either way, below are some highlightsfromhalf a century of big building fun.

Ludamus! A Latin origin
Did you know the nameDUPLO®derives from the Latin word ‘duplex’meaning double? The name first featured on two LEGO® DUPLO sets launched in 1969 – set no. 510 and no. 511 if you like specifics.

And did you know that LEGODUPLO bricks are twice the size of classic LEGO bricks on all dimensions? This is so all our bricks fit into the LEGO System in Play, but finding this 2:1 scale solution was no easy task.We tried both 4:1 and 3:1 scale before Godtfred Kirk Christiansen – second generation LEGO Group owner -in 1968 came up with the idea (during his sleep!) to hollow the

LEGO Star Wars 20 Years

Earlier this month, I reported that we will be getting some 20th Anniversary sets for LEGO Star Wars in April and some of the sets that were rumored were the Slave I (75243) and Anakin’s Pod Racer (75258). PromoBricks has reported some other rumored sets in the wave and the list now consists of:

Slave I (75243) – 1007 pieces
Anakin’s Pod Racer (75258) – 279 pieces
Snowspeeder (75259) – 309 pieces
Clone Scout Walker (75261) – 250 pieces
Imperial Dropship (75262) – 125 pieces

They have also reported that each set will come with an exclusive LEGO Star Wars minifigure with a printed plate. Those characters include Leia Organa (75243), Luke Skywalker (75258), Lando Calrissian (75259), Darth Vader (75261) and Han Solo (75262). I’m not sure how those characters relate to the sets as they don’t even correspond to the sets.

LEGO Ideas 10 Years

Today LEGO celebrates an amazing ten years of LEGO Ideas as a crowdsourcing platform for fans. It all started back in 2008 as LEGO CUUSOO during the beta phase and it eventually changed to LEGO Ideas which we now have today. The first set made for CUUSOO was the Shinkai 6500 Submarine (21100) and the first one under the LEGO Ideas name was the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 (21108). There now has been 23 sets that have been officially released so far and it doesn’t look like it will be stopping any time soon. Which LEGO Ideas set is your favorite?
