The LEGO Group 2019 Annual Report Results

LEGO has announced that they had a great year in 2019 and consumer sales, revenue, and profit grew. Consumer sales grew 5.6% last year compared to 2018. Their revenue grew 6% to DKK 38.5 billion. Their net profit increased 3% even though the company made investments in long-term growth initiatives.

The top selling themes in no particular order for 2019 were LEGO City, LEGO Creator, LEGO Friends, LEGO Technic, LEGO Classic, and LEGO Star Wars. In addition, the LEGO Harry Potter, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, and LEGO Disney Princess themes also did very well. The LEGO Ideas Friends Central Perk (21319) became the fastest selling set ever.

Last year, LEGO launched its first integrated global brand advertising campaign in more than 30 years called Rebuild the World and that attracted new consumers along with their acquisition of BrickLink.

The company opened 150 new branded stores and it now has 570 stores around the world with another 150 more planned for 2020 with a majority of it in mainland China.

Lastly, LEGO announced some changes in the chairmanship of LEGO A/S. Thomas Kirk Kristiansen will assume the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors, Søren Thorup Sørensen, CEO of KIRKBI A/S, will become Vice Chairman. Jørgen Vig Knudstorp will remain a member of the Board.

The LEGO Group Announcing Annual Results 2017 Tomorrow

The LEGO Group Annual Results 2017

The LEGO Group will be announcing their 2017 Annual Results tomorrow at 10:00AM CET (1:00AM PST). Last year at September, they released the financial details for the first half of 2017 and it showed that revenue was down compared to the same period in 2016. As a result, LEGO had to restructure the company which meant that they had to move some people around as well as trimming about eight percent of their workforce.

The press conference tomorrow will be revealing the numbers for last year as well as the top LEGO themes and sets. Hopefully, they’ll go into details of what contributed to the lost revenue at least in the first half of 2017. Maybe the second half of the year with the holiday shopping season helped balance everything out but we shall see. I’ll try to stay up for it but I’ll probably get knocked out because I have to work early tomorrow morning.
