Upcoming LEGO CUUSOO Back to the Future Set Submissions

Masashi Togami

During the first day of the 2013 San Diego Comic Con, I got to meet up with Masashi Togami of Team BTTF and we had a nice conversation about many things including some of his upcoming projects on LEGO CUUSOO. Masashi currently has four projects on CUUSOO at the moment including:

Before I met Masashi, I was roaming around the exhibit hall at SDCC and I got an email from him telling me that he’s been hard at work planning and putting together some new sets that he will be unveiling on LEGO CUUSOO in the upcoming months. From August to November, the team will be publishing more Back to the Future based sets to hopefully one day have them made into future LEGO sets as well. Below are the tentative set names as well as a preliminary picture of the new sets.

  • August 2013: “Doc’s Big Truck with radiation suits on Marty and Doc”
  • September 2013: “Marty’s Toyota Pick Uup”
  • October 2013: “Locomotive 131”
  • November 2013: “Griff’s Future Vehicle”

LEGO CUUSOO Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine (21103) Misspelling

Some of the bigger LEGO sites and some people in Europe already have gotten their hands on the latest LEGO CUUSOO set, the Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine (21103). Many have done reviews on it and noticed that the flux capacitor piece has a pretty big spelling error. Someone in quality control forgot about the “I before E, except after C” rule in the bottom sentence “SHEILD EYES FROM LIGHT” instead of “SHIELD EYES FROM LIGHT”. It looks like the the first batches of the set have this error and LEGO has acknowledged it in their Knowledge Base. The DeLorean will be available at LEGO stores and Shop@Homeicon and LEGO is now thinking of options to resolve this issue on the flux capacitor piece.

This probably means the set I picked up that was autographed at the 2013 San Diego Comic Con may also have the spelling error which makes it more of a collector’s item. I will be picking up another set when it becomes available globally to do review and I’ll check if that batch has the error or not.

Information about the Back to the Future set Flux Capacitor misspelling.

It has come to our attention that one of the pieces in the new Back to the Future Time Machine set was printed with a spelling error on it. Text on the Flux Capacitor element reads “SHEILD EYES FROM LIGHT” instead of “SHIELD EYES FROM LIGHT”. We’re sorry for any disappointment caused by the oversight.

The set will launch as

LEGO San Diego Comic Con 2013 Day 1 Recap

LEGO Sign

Day 1 at the 2013 San Diego Comic Con is finally over and I haven’t been this tired in a very long time. Let me do a recap on all things LEGO related today at the Con. The biggest news there was probably the failure of the exclusive Spider-Woman minifigure giveaway. As you may have seen in my earlier post, the LEGO floor staff had to shut down the whole thing 15-20 minutes into the giveaway due to overcrowding. If you’ve been to SDCC before, once there’s any sort of overcrowding, they would be forced to shut down things like this. As a result, there are still some left over raffle tickets left over for Spider-Woman and will be given out tomorrow morning at 11:30 but this time it’s at the West Terrace. At that time, LEGO will also be giving out tickets for the Amazing Spider-Man minifigure as well. At 3:30pm, check if you have a winning ticket on LEGOraffle.com and if you do, head back to the LEGO booth to pick up your precious.

Another thing that I noticed that was a little out of control was the line for the LEGO The Hobbit Micro Scale Bag End and the LEGO Star Wars JEK-14 Mini Stealth Starfighter exclusive sets. People were lining up for the minifigure giveaway when the line was for tickets to get the two sets. This confusion led to a line that snaked a couple of times around the whole booth. There were only a limited amount of each set … Continue

New Images of LEGO CUUSOO Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine

Brick News has posted new images of the LEGO CUUSOO Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine (21103). Last week, we got our first look at the DeLorean itself and there were mixed reactions of the design of the car. As you can see from the image above, you can see the box art of the set as well as the Marty McFly and Doc Brown minifigures. Marty also gets a purple skateboard. The image also shows the dashboard of the DeLorean with the time circuits set at January 28, 1958 for the destination time and October 26, 1985 for the present time. I’ve did some research and there are a couple of issues with the time circuits because there are supposed to be three dates shown with the last one being the last time departed. Another issue is that there was no destination date set as January 28, 1985 in the movies. I’m not sure where LEGO got that date from but it’s not one that was used. A helpful follower gave me an update on a reason why LEGO may have used that particular date. January 28, 1985 is the date that LEGO patented the design of LEGO bricks. It’s interesting that LEGO included that fact into the set even though it may confuse some people if they’re not up on their history.

Target: 10+ boys; and fans of the “Back to the Future” movie of all ages.

Storyline: Based on “back to the Future” movie (Universal Studios): With the DeLorean time machine, a

LEGO CUUSOO Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine Set Revealed

BrickFanatics has gotten a copy of July’s Store Newsletter and it an image of the new LEGO CUUSOO Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine (21103). The flyer also shows the release date of July 18th and will be available in LEGO Stores and at Shop@Homeicon. There’s is still no word yet on pricing on the set or how many pieces it will contain. There’s also no word on if there will be any minifigures included. The DeLorean shown in the image is the hover conversion DeLorean from the end of first Back to the Future movie and the main vehicle in the second movie. LEGO has changed the designed a little from the one that Masashi had submitted on CUUSOO. One noticeable difference is the front of the car and the windshield area. Nevertheless, I’ll still be picking up a set when it comes out. Will you be getting it next month when it becomes available to the public as well?

**Update: New images of the set here**

“If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything!”

When Masashi, LEGO fan and founder of a Back to the Future fan site, posted his creation of a LEGO DeLorean time machine on LEGO.cuusoo.com in the summer of 2011, he could not have imagined achieving the 10,000 supporters needed to develop his idea in only a few months. Even more importantly: his model passed all the product tests in 2012 and is now part of the LEGO product assortment.

Congrats Masashi,
