LEGO CUUSOO Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine (21103) Review

It is finally here! The latest LEGO CUUSOO to be released as an official LEGO set is the Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine (21103). The set was created by Masashi Togami and Team BTTF and was submitted to CUUSOO on August 1, 2011. It wasn’t until April 28, 2012 that the projected had enough supporters to go to the Summer 2012 Review. During the review stage, the DeLorean was going up against three other popular projects and we all know the outcome of that. In December 2012, LEGO announced that the DeLorean Time Machine would be an official LEGO set. During the 2013 San Diego Comic Con, LEGO released the set on sale early for attendees of the event and on August 1st, the set was officially released to the public which is two years to the day after it was first submitted on CUUSOO. The set contains 401 pieces and retails for $34.99, a $0.09/piece ratio. The box contains five unnumbered bags, one fairly large instruction booklet, and three loose plates.

LEGO Doc Brown’s GMC Value Van By Team BTTF

Last month, Masashi Togami revealed that he and Team BTTF will be releasing more Back to the Future related sets to be added to LEGO CUUSOO in the next few months. Today, Sakuretsu has posted a few preliminary images of Doc Brown’s GMC Value Van. It is the white van that is used to transport the DeLorean Time Machine at the Twin Pines Mall. On the side of the van, it has the wording “DR. E. BROWN ENTERPRISES — 24 HR. SCIENTIFIC SERVICES. The images also show a smaller DeLorean that is able to fit inside the van. Some other things that are shown in the images are Marty and Doc in their radiation suits with Einstein. Marty is holding the video camera that was used to record Doc’s experiment of the temporal displacement. Doc is seen holding plutonium that he took from the Libyan nationalists. Just from seeing the images, I feel that this will be a popular project on CUUSOO when it is submitted later this month.

What Does Michael J. Fox Think of The LEGO BTTF DeLorean Time Machine (21103)?

LEGO CUUSOO Back to the Future Time Machine (21103)

It seems that Marty McFly himself has gotten a hold of a LEGO Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine (21103) set. So what does he think about the set? Michael J. Fox this morning tweeted just one word about it: “Bitchin'”. That pretty much sums his thoughts of himself being immortalized as a LEGO minifigure and the DeLorean being created out of LEGO bricks.

You may or may not know this but every LEGO Back to the Future DeLorean set you purchase, the creator of the set, Masashi Togami, gets 1% of the royalties from the sales of these particular sets. Being the very generous man that he is, Masashi and Team BTTF will be donating all the proceeds that he gets to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Michael has been battling the disease since 1991 and has retired from acting to turn his energy and focus to his foundation. With the proceeds of the LEGO sets going towards helping his work, we’re that much closer to finding a cure of this horrible disease.

Fallout From Confirmed LEGO The Simpsons News

Disclaimer: The images used in this post are from a proposed LEGO CUUSOO project and not what the official Simpsons sets will look like.

You may have heard by now but this morning, it was confirmed that LEGO will be releasing sets based on The Simpsons theme. This was somewhat of shocking news because all that we heard of it was just rumors. Now that we know there will indeed be The Simpsons sets in 2014, there are also some fallout from this major news.

Over on LEGO CUUSOO, there were projects that were based on The Simpsons theme such as B. Parsons’ project called “The Simpsons Project” that was started on March 16, 2012. We’ll just use this project as an example. If you try to go to the link, you will be greeted with “Project Deleted – This project has been removed for not following the Guidelines” label. Since there will be official LEGO The Simpsons sets coming out next year, CUUSOO has deleted all Simpsons-related project off the site. There are no traces of it anywhere on any major search engines, no cached page, nothing. The only thing that I could find was on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. The last snapshot of it active was on June 27, 2012 so we’re not exactly sure when the projects were deleted or how many supporters they had.

The point is that these projects on LEGO CUUSOO may or may not have passed the review stage if they ever achieved the … Continue

LEGO CUUSOO FTL: Faster Than Light Achieves 10000 Supporters

The latest LEGO CUUSOO project to reach the 10000 supporters needed to be reviewed by LEGO to have the opportunity to become an official set is the FTL: Faster Than Light by CrashSanders and GlenBricker. The project is based on an real-time strategy indie video game from Subset Games and there are 15 micro-scale ships that were presented to the community to get it’s support. The micro-scale ships are similar to the Star Wars Planet sets in that it includes a ship, a minifigure, and a planet. Congratulations to CrashSanders and GlenBricker for this amazing achievement. Below is the official comments from LEGO.

Congratulations on 10,000 supporters, CrashSanders and GlenBricker!

2013.08.01
Here we are, after only 6 months! While this project didn’t travel at the speed of light, it didn’t do bad for itself either. Okay, lame jokes aside, the fan community that sprung up around this project is really inspiring. Watching LEGO fans come together to work on this project and support it has really made us proud of the LEGO CUUSOO Community!

Of course, these little ships have a great collectability and history has proven that LEGO CUUSOO projects based on video games can have huge appeal.

What happens now?
This project moves from the Idea stage to the Review stage. A “LEGO Review Board” composed of designers, product managers, and other key team members will examine the idea. We’ll build concept models and determine if the concept meets our high standards for what it takes to be a LEGO product. This includes factors
