LEGO Store July 2015 Monthly Mini Build Event Whale (40132) Review

LEGO July 2015 Monthly Mini Build Whale (40132)

I’m a few weeks late but here is my short review of the July 2015 LEGO Monthly Mini Build, the Whale (40132). This month’s event was the first one after the new registration changes were implemented in June. You can no longer do walkups to have your child(ren) build but instead you register and get on the list to build at a specific time. If you miss your time, then your spot may be given away at the store’s discretion and there are no rainchecks. I heard from attendees that the signups were pretty crazy and times spots filled up very quickly, pretty similar to SDCC signups but on a smaller level.

The whale itself is the smallest for 2015 so far coming in at only 31 pieces. The build is pretty straightforward with no special techniques and extremely easy to create even for younger children. Although the set is only named a whale, the shape of it is similar to a humpback. On top of the whale, there is a simulation of watching coming out of their blowhole. The tail is able to move up and down on the hinge.

Again to attend these LEGO Monthly Mini Builds, you have to register online. At the time of this review, registration for August’s build, the Squirrel (40133), is probably filled up but you can try and sign up. I can’t guarantee that there will still be any spots open because these events are that are that popular. I believe registration for September’s build will be … Continue

Beautiful LEGO: Wild! Book Review

Beautiful LEGO: Wild!

In my next book review, I have Mike Doyle’s latest addition to his Beautiful LEGO series with Beautiful LEGO: Wild!. The book has 232 pages and retails for $24.95 and is scheduled to be released on September 25th. This book includes the latest curated collection of LEGO art showcasing work by artists in the LEGO community. If you remember, there was a call for entries back in February and people submitted their creations in hopes they would be chosen to be included in the book.

The cover of Beautiful LEGO: Wild! is made of the thicker cardboard that we’re used to by now and mainly features the Rainbow Lorikeet bt Gabriel Thomson. The back also has some smaller images highlighting some more builds that you can expect to see in the book. The inside flap gives a synopsis of what the book is about.

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes The Joker Bumper Car (30303) Polybag Review

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes The Joker Bumper Car (30303)

One of the best LEGO polybags in 2015 in my opinion has to be the LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes The Joker Bumper Car (30303). We first heard about it back in December but there’s been an issue of it being publicly available for purchase. First it was on Toys R Us’ website but then it was taken down then there were rumors or it showing up at Target but that never happened, to my knowledge. As of this point, the only places I’ve heard of the polybag being available, besides eBay or BrickLink, was during the Daily Mail promotion, at a select few Toys R Us stores, and currently at LEGOLAND parks. It contains 47 pieces and normally retails for $3.99.

As an eBay Affiliate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

Minifigure

The only minifigure in the polybag is Joker himself. This version of the Joker has been in three previous sets so it isn’t that hard to find him but this polybag is easily the cheapest way to get him in a set. He wears his iconic purple suit with a green vest on the inside. He has a double-sided white face paint with a sinister smirk on one side and evil grin on the other. To finish his look, he has his green hair. THe Joker’s accessory is a pie.

Build

The bumper car build is pretty simple but is easily recognizable. It uses some clever SNOT building techniques to create the bumper areas. What’s nice is that it also has some wheels … Continue

LEGO Minecraft The Snow Hideout (21120)

Last last week, I received a package from the LEGO CEE team and inside was the summer 2015 wave of the LEGO Minecraft The Snow Hideout (21120) and The Nether Fortress (21122) sent for me to review. Although I haven’t done many reviews of the previous LEGO Minecraft sets, I have some knowledge of Minecraft since I used to play the game a few years ago.
