The LEGO Movie Sequel Story Revealed

It’s been a while since we’ve talked about The LEGO Movie Sequel but Collider has some new details on what the story will be. As we know by now, the end of the first movie involves Finn’s sister playing with DUPLO bricks and they announced their plans to destroy them. In an interview with Dan Lin, he stated:

We’re picking up where the first movie left us, where the Duplo have now come and they’re attacking Bricksburg. It’s several years later, and you’re going to see the result of that.

Another part of The LEGO Movie Sequel could tackle on gender differences, more specifically how a boy plays with LEGO is different from how a girl plays with LEGO.

Chris McKay stated:

I’m really excited about where the movie is gonna go because it’s about these things that are actual notions that people have that might even be unconscious biases, where people don’t even realize that that’s the way they’re looking at the world.

The LEGO Movie Sequel to be a Space Action Musical?

News on The LEGO Movie Sequel has been somewhat quiet since it’s been pushed back to 2019 a new interview might be shed some new details for the movie. The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay appeared on the Shanlian on Batman podcast and he revealed that The LEGO Movie Sequel could be a lot different from the first.

LEGO 2 is going to be this big musical and space action movie. They need a lot of the writing, a lot of development, not only with script development, but development with songwriters. So it was very ambitious to get that movie out.

If the sequel is indeed going to be a space action musical movie, there will no doubt feature a lot of Benny the Spaceman, voiced by Charlie Day in the first movie. Of course, this could very well change again between now and 2019 so don’t get your hopes up too high since there has already been a lot of changes already so far.

The LEGO Movie Sequel Changes Directors

Even with the success of the first movie, it looks like that are more changes to The LEGO Movie Sequel. ComicBook.com is reporting that Trolls director Mike Mitchell has now been named the new director for The LEGO Movie Sequel. He replaces Rob Schrab who announced as the previous director around this time two years ago. According to reports, the change to Mitchell was based on creative differences between Warner Bros. and Schrab.

The swap in directors for The LEGO Movie Sequel is the latest change for the movie. Last year, the original script by Phil Lord and Chris Miller was rewritten by Raphael Bob-Waksberg and also the release date was pushed back for a second time to 2019.

The LEGO Movie Sequel Script to be Rewritten

There has been many changes going on for The LEGO Movie Sequel in the past few months. Last month, it was reported that the movie was pushed back a second time to February 2, 2019 from the original release date of May 26, 2017. Variety is now reporting that Warner Bros. has hired Raphael Bob-Waksberg to rewrite the script for the movie. With Phil Lord and Chris Miller being busy with other projects, the studio went in another direction for the writing.

Although it’s not that unusual for movies to be rewritten this early in production, it does seem a little worrisome that there are so many changes announced for The LEGO Movie Sequel so far. Hopefully these changes are for the best.
